Patent number: 11544150Abstract: A system and method are presented that identify new, modified, unchanged, and deleted files in an incremental backup through a file list maintained on the backup destination. The FileList is a flat file in which file information about each file on a source node is stored sequentially into the file. During a subsequent incremental backup, the FileList is read sequentially from the backup destination and is used to generate a search tree. A hash value based on the file path is the key to the search tree, with the file's modified time and size being hashed together to form the value of the tree's key-value pair. Files are examined on the source and compared to the key-value pairs in the search tree. Status information in the search tree is modified to indicate discovered files. Unmodified status information identifies files that have been deleted since the previous backup.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2019Date of Patent: January 3, 2023Assignee: ARCSERVE (USA) LLCInventors: Zhenqiu Fang, Lei Li, Zhonghua Dang, Guangju Li

Patent number: 10929052Abstract: A system and method are presented that reduce the use of snapshot space. One embodiment of the present invention only performs snapshot copies for blocks on the source volume that have not yet been backed up. Another embodiment stores the data in the snapshot space in multiple files, and then deletes those files that contain data whose corresponding blocks have been backed up. A third embodiment stores the data in the snapshot space directly onto a dedicated device and then reuses the data blocks for data already backed up when the dedicated device is full.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2020Date of Patent: February 23, 2021Assignee: ARCSERVE (USA) LLCInventors: Chuanqi Sun, Yu Lu

Patent number: 10140188Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for backing up a computer. The method includes choosing a time window to back up the computer; determining jobs that need to be synced during the time window and snapshots; determining an optimal set of snapshots that cover all jobs; altering job records in the database to point to one of the optimal snapshots; and deleting all snapshots not in the optimal set.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2014Date of Patent: November 27, 2018Assignee: ArcServe (USA) LLCInventor: Charles Michael Wallace
