  • Patent number: 6696117
Abstract: Laminates include a thermoplastic substrate layer, a clear coat layer, and a tie layer. The tie layer most preferably includes an adhesive-enhancing effective amount of a thermoplastic reactive terpolymer of ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (E-MA-GMA) which adhesively bonds the substrate and clear coat layers one to another. Most preferably, the tie layer is a blend of E-MA-GMA and a tackifier (e.g., a C6-C8 cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon resin). The laminate may be employed to manufacture a variety of shaped articles, most preferably automotive trim components.

  • Patent number: 6695223
Abstract: An adjustable stator is mounted in the lower end of a pop-up sprinkler riser and includes a vertically extending frame portion and a pair of valve portions that extend horizontally from an upper end of the frame portion. A coil spring is squeezed between a lower end of a drive subassembly and a mandrel mounted in a lower end of the frame portion. The mandrel and the frame portion have mating projections which allow the vertical position of the mandrel to be adjusted. This adjusts the downward biasing force exerted by the coil spring against the frame portion and the valve members carried thereby. This varies the pressure of a water stream flowing past a turbine in the riser, and the speed of rotation of the turbine which in turn changes the speed of rotation of a nozzle driven by the turbine.

  • Patent number: 6696204
Abstract: A polymer battery which includes a cell assembly having a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator composed primarily of a fluoropolymer is manufactured by impregnating the cell assembly with an electrolyte composition containing (A) an ion-conductive salt, (B) a solvent in which the ion-conductive salt is soluble and (C) a compound having at least two reactive double bonds per molecule, then reacting the component C compound to form a three-dimensional network structure. The polymer battery has a high safety, a good thermal cycling resistance and robust characteristics even when held at an elevated temperature, making it particularly suitable for use as a lithium secondary cell or a lithium ion secondary cell.

  • Patent number: 6694996
Abstract: A swing check valve for controlling fluid flow, including a valve housing having a port for fluid flow therethrough. A valve assembly is disposed within the valve housing for controlling the fluid flow therethrough, and includes a valve seat communicating with the port. A clapper is pivotally mounted in the valve housing and moves between open and closed positions. A lever arm is pivotally mounted on the rocker arm for providing leverage against the rocker arm for positioning the clapper and rocker arm within the valve housing. A spring is captured in the valve housing, and normally urges the clapper into the closed position. A first pivot is carried by the spring for permitting unattached pivotal movement of the spring relative to the cover. A second pivot is carried by the spring for permitting the spring to pivot within the valve housing responsive to movement of the clapper.

  • Patent number: 6696823
Abstract: Methods and circuitry for combining the outputs of multiphase power converters which greatly improves the transient response of the power conversion system are presented in a variety of embodiments. Transformers may be used to accomplish the combining function, and with properly phased and connected windings it is possible to achieve a great reduction in output ripple current and a simultaneous reduction in transistor ripple current, which give the designer freedom to reduce the value of the system output inductor, improving transient response.

  • Patent number: 6694681
Abstract: A floor assembly having a plurality of elongated extrusions and a cooperating snap connector that is secured to a rigid underlying support. Each extrusion includes a pair of outer leg members and a pair of inner leg members, each of the outer leg members being connected to an adjacent inner leg member by horizontal support member. Each inner leg member includes a retaining tab extending therefrom. The snap connector includes an elongated base portion and a pair of flanges attached to opposed major sides of the base portion. The retaining tabs cooperate with the bottom section of the flanges to mechanically secure the extrusions to the snap connector. The snap connector is secured to the rigid underlying support.

  • Patent number: 6697237
Abstract: The present invention concerns an improved ground fault circuit interrupt outlet. The device includes a voltage sensitive device which is capable of conducting current at a predetermined voltage. The voltage sensitive device is electrically connected between a ground on the ground fault circuit interrupt outlet and a neutral located on the ground fault circuit interrupt outlet. Arranging the device in this manner converts the ground fault circuit interrupt outlet into a ground fault circuit interrupt with open neutral protection.

  • Publication number: 20040031289
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the manufacture of optical fiber preforms using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). The invention consists of a cylindrical reactor in which material such as flourine-doped silica glass is deposited on a cylindrical silica rod. A furnace for regulating reactor temperature encases the reactor. A microwave generator coupled with a resonator and an H10 waveguide delivers microwave energy to the reactor, producing simultaneously symmetrical excitations in the E010 mode and a plasma surface wave in E01 mode located at the surface of the rod. A microwave plasma is scanned along the length of the rod through a slit in the reactor to deposit a homogeneous film of a desired thickness. The benefits of the present invention over the prior art include increased absorption of delivered power, and the ability to uniformly deposit films such as flourine-doped silica on rods with diameters of up to 30-35 mm and thus produce optical fiber preforms with diameters greater than 40 mm.

  • Publication number: 20040031954
Abstract: A scissor jack assembly with double-lead Acme threaded screw. Through use of urethane or similar material as a braking means, the jack assembly is operable with a self locking action over a wider range of loads and especially at lower loads where an Acme loading phenomenon that results in said self locking action has previously been unattainable. Faster and smoother jack operation is made possible by employing a thrust bearing, including a plurality of roller or ball bearings, with the jack assembly. A spacing washer is also provided to retain the threaded shaft within the trunnions of the jack assembly, in order that the ends of each of the trunnions need not be machined or stamped to retain the trunnions within the jack assembly. Utilizing such a spacing washer decreases the costs involved with manufacturing the jack assembly, while increasing the ability to repair the jack assembly.

  • Publication number: 20040031288
Abstract: A device and method is disclosed for manufacturing optical fiber preforms utilizing microwave plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition. Precursor gas is introduced to the face of a vertically mounted dielectric rod, and a plasma is struck by means of simultaneous excitation of an E01 type wave and an H type wave with rotating linear polarization. The silica rod is positioned so that its face is at the bottom of the tube. Precursor gas is delivered from a position below the face of the silica rod, and microwave energy, which travels through the rod to the rod face, is delivered from a source positioned above the rod. With this configuration, a uniformly dense plasma localized on the face of the rod can simultaneously deposit both a pure or doped core and a doped cladding. It is also useful for creating waveguides, preform cores for use as substrates in creating optical fiber preforms, capillaries and ceramic rods.
