Abstract: An electronic gaming device having a display and a game controller, and playing an iterative game. During the iterative game, the game controller controls the display to display a set of columns of symbol positions, and selects symbols for display at the symbol positions. When a configurable symbol is selected for display in one of the columns, the game controller adjusts at least a portion of a background of the one of the columns. When the one column is completely filled with modified backgrounds, the electronic gaming device presents an award based on a prize associated with the one column, in addition to any prizes presented as a result of payline combinations.

Abstract: An electronic gaming machine may present a wagering game in which a player goal is displayed for a player of the electronic gaming machine. In general, the player goal may specify a goal to be achieved by the player in an associated reel game. In one embodiment, such a player goal is displayed on a simulated wheel (or “goal wheel”). During play of the wagering game, the electronic gaming machine may spin and stop the goal wheel to identify one of the player goals displayed on the goal wheel. Likewise, the electronic gaming machine may spin and stop a plurality of reels to display a game outcome. The electronic gaming machine may compare the identified player goal to the game outcome, and if the game outcome matches or otherwise satisfies the player goal, the electronic gaming machine may provide a game award (and/or another game feature, such as a bonus game) to the player.

Abstract: An electronic method of operating a gaming system. The method includes selecting a plurality of symbols, displaying the selected symbols, and upon the displayed symbols including one or more designated symbols, retaining each displayed designated symbol for a subsequent game round at a respective symbol display position at which the designated symbol is displayed. The method also includes, in the subsequent game round, selecting, a plurality of symbols from the symbol data, upon a further designated symbol being selected for display at a symbol display position at which the retained designated symbol is displayed, modifying the retained designated symbol to indicate that a win containing the retained designated symbol will be increased, and upon the selected symbols in the subsequent game round corresponding to a winning outcome incorporating the modified retained designated symbol, making an award of an award value corresponding to the winning outcome modifier by the increase.

Abstract: Innovations in user interface (“UI”) features of an electronic gaming device, and in features of backend processing to implement the UI features, are presented. For example, control logic selects symbols to be displayed for dynamic symbols for reel strips used in the electronic gaming device. The symbols selected to be displayed for dynamic symbols differ between game types. An electronic gaming machine can be associated with different gameplay divisions, such as different wager levels. Different gameplay divisions can be associated with different states, such as being in a base game mode or a special event mode, or having different numbers of spins remaining in a special event mode. A user can switch between gameplay divisions, where a state is resumed when a user switches to a different gameplay division.

Abstract: A display, as for an electronic gaming machine, includes one or more rotatable mechanical reels including at least one variable displaying position at which the display may be varied. Content is displayed at the variable displaying position when the variable displaying position registers with the display. One or more reels can include a reel strip which includes at one location a pre-printed symbol and at another location a window. A video display can be arranged, configured and controlled by a processor to cast a display at the inside of the reel to impart light and video effects to pre-printed symbol locations or to cast video content through the reel strip window.

Abstract: A gaming device having a plurality of reel strips, each reel strip corresponding to a respective one of a plurality of columns of symbol positions. When the instructions are executed, the gaming device determines if a selection condition is met, randomly selects the number of game instances, randomly selects a subset of the columns of symbol positions to be populated by a defined symbol, randomly selects symbols to populate the columns of symbols not populated by the defined symbol, control the display to display the plurality of columns of symbol positions populated by the defined symbol and the symbols selected, and evaluates symbols displayed for winning combinations.

Abstract: An electronic gaming machine includes a display device and a processor configured to execute instructions stored in a memory, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to generate a game-state-retention sign based upon a plurality of game variables representing a state of a wagering game, where the game-state-retention sign includes a first two-dimensional machine-recognisable image that encodes the plurality of game variables. When executed, the instructions also cause the processor to display the game-state-retention sign on the display device for image capture by a handheld player device, where the handheld player device is configured to display a game-continuation sign generated from the game-state-retention sign for resuming play of the wagering game.

Abstract: A system includes a smart table having RFID sensor(s) configured to detect RFID-enabled chips, including a wager area sensor positioned beneath a wager area on a surface of the smart table. The smart table also includes wireless beacon device(s) configured to wirelessly connect with a mobile device of a player. The system includes processor(s) executing instructions configured to: detect, via the at least one wireless beacon device, presence of the mobile device of the player near the at least one wireless beacon device; identify a player identity of the player based on the detected presence of the mobile device; detect an initial wager provided by the player at the smart table based at least in part on sensor data received by the wager area sensor, the sensor data identifying presence of RFID-enabled chip(s) near the wager area; and initiate tracking of a play session associated with the player.

Abstract: An electronic gaming machine architecture is provided in which a gaming platform application and wagering game applications are executed in separate processes but may share access to common display windows; such display windows may be caused to be generated by the gaming platform application, which may then assign specific display windows to the various wagering game applications, along with window handles usable to direct graphical content thereto. The wagering game applications may then direct graphical content to the display windows, while the gaming platform application may retain control over the size, position, transparency, and/or z-order of the display windows.

Abstract: An electronic gaming machine includes a cabinet, a main display coupled to the cabinet and configured to display a wagering game, and a button deck assembly slidably coupled to the cabinet. The button deck assembly includes a housing extending from a first end oriented to face the cabinet to an opposed second end, a pushbutton releasably coupled to the housing between the first end and the second end, a latch, and a lever. The latch is configured to pivot relative to the pushbutton between a first position, in which the latch engages the pushbutton to secure the pushbutton to the housing, and a second position, in which the latch is disengaged from the pushbutton. The lever is slidably coupled to the housing and configured to engage the latch, wherein movement of the lever relative to the housing pivots the latch between the first position and the second position.

Abstract: A brushless motor system for use with a mechanical reel gaming machine is provided. The brushless motor system includes a reel hub and a reel frame rotationally attached to a center shaft of the reel hub. The brushless motor system also includes a permanent magnet (PM) rotor attached to the reel frame and including a plurality of permanent magnets attached to the PM rotor. The brushless motor system further includes a stator including stator coils attached to the reel hub, the plurality of stator coils are mounted parallel to a surface of the PM rotor at a separation distance. The stator causes the PM rotor to rotate during activation of the stator without direct contact between the stator and the rotor, thereby causing the display of one or more symbols of the plurality of symbols during the wagering game based on the rotation.

Abstract: A system includes a first game machine, a second game machine, and a session server. The session server includes a processor configured to at least receive, from the first game machine, a request from a player to enable restoration of a game, and in response to receiving the request to enable restoration of the game, register a session identifier in association with a player account of the player. The processor is also configured to store the session identifier in association with the player account to a session identifier database, and receive, from the second game machine and in response to a player request to restore the game, at least player account information associated with the player account. Accordingly, the interface may include a button deck assembly, which may, in turn, include a touch-sensitive video display, and a flange surrounding at least a portion of the button deck assembly. In some embodiments, the flange may include a first mechanical fastener configured to couple the button deck to a cabinet of a first electronic gaming machine, and a second mechanical fastener configured to couple the button deck to a cabinet of a second electronic gaming machine. The button deck may, in addition, be communicatively coupled to one or both of the first and second electronic gaming machines. As a result, in at least some embodiments, the button deck is supported by and communicatively coupled to the first electronic gaming machine and the second electronic gaming machine.

Abstract: A gaming system includes a main display configured to display a wagering game comprising a plurality of virtual spinnable reels having a plurality of adjacent game symbol positions. A game controller is communicatively coupled to the display, and a computer-readable storage medium. The game controller is configured to initiate a first round of play of a base game causing a simulated spinning of the spinnable reels, change the base game to a metamorphic reel game based on a triggering condition of a special symbol landing on a stopped reel. At least one morphed reel is created from at least two of the spinnable reels. At least one reel is replaced with the morphed reel in the metamorphic reel game. A game outcome is determined based on paytable and a reduced number of reels that includes the morphed reel. Credit is awarded to the player based on the game outcome.
