Abstract: A liquid electrolyte formed by reacting phosphoric acid (H3PO4) in the liquid state with silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4), thereby forming a fluid suspension. The fluid suspension is heated to yield a liquid electrolyte including phosphoric acid (H3PO4), pyrophosphoric acid (H4P2O7), and a particulate solid comprising a silicophosphoric acid, wherein the silicophosphoric acid is an acidic molecular compound including silicon and phosphorus. A concentrated silicophosphoric acid composition prepared by removing most of the liquid from the liquid electrolyte is dissolved in water to yield a homogeneous solution. The homogeneous solution is dried to yield a solid electrolyte. In some cases, the homogenous solution is dried on a substrate to coat at least a portion of the substrate with a proton conductive solid electrolyte. A fuel cell may include the liquid electrolyte, the solid electrolyte, or the coated substrate.

Abstract: Forming a ferrite thin film laminate includes heating a layered assembly to form a laminate. The layered assembly includes a first coated substrate having a first ferrite layer opposite a first thermoplastic surface and a second coated substrate having a second ferrite layer opposite a second thermoplastic surface to form a laminate. Each coated substrate is formed by forming a ferrite layer on a surface of a thermoplastic substrate. The coated substrates are arranged such that the first ferrite layer contacts the second thermoplastic surface. Heating the layered assembly includes bonding the first coated substrate to the second coated substrate such that the first ferrite layer is sandwiched between a first thermoplastic substrate and a second thermoplastic substrate. The ferrite thin film laminate may include a multiplicity of coated substrates.

Abstract: A transition metal hydroxy-anion electrode material for lithium-ion battery cathodes includes the charge-neutral structure Mx(OH)n(XO4)m, where M is one or more transition metals, x is the total number of transition metal atoms, X is sulfur or phosphorus, and x, n, and m are integers. (OH)n(XO4)m is a hydroxysulfate or hydroxyphosphate, and M can be one or more (e.g., a solid solution of) transition metals selected from the group consisting of copper, iron, manganese, nickel, vanadium, cobalt, zinc, chromium, and molybdenum. A lithium-ion battery may have a cathode including Mx(OH)n(XO4)m as a cathode material, and an electronic device may include a lithium-ion battery having a cathode including Mx(OH)n(XO4)m as a cathode material.

Abstract: Some embodiments include a method. The method can comprise: providing a carrier substrate; providing an adhesion modification layer over the carrier substrate; providing a device substrate; and coupling the device substrate and the carrier substrate together, the adhesion modification layer being located between the device substrate and the carrier substrate when the device substrate and the carrier substrate are coupled together. In these embodiments, the adhesion modification layer can be configured so that the device substrate couples indirectly with the carrier substrate by way of the adhesion modification layer with a first bonding force that is greater than a second bonding force by which the device substrate couples with the carrier substrate absent the adhesion modification layer. Other embodiments of related methods and devices are also disclosed.
