  • Patent number: 6290815
Abstract: The invention relates to a paper sheet containing grit particles giving it, in use, a high abrasion resistance. It is characterized in that it contains grit particles coated in a non-abrasive material, in particular in a polymer. According to the invention, the particles are chosen from alumina, silica, boron nitride, silicon carbide, titanium carbide, tungsten carbide, zirconium oxide, cerium oxide, glass and ceramic particles, or mixtures thereof. The invention also relates to the laminates containing it, as well as to the processes for manufacturing the sheets and the laminates.

  • Patent number: 5885719
Abstract: The invention relates to an impregnated sheet. It is impregnated with a composition containing, as a mixture, a crosslinkable polymer having a glass transition temperature of between -10.degree. and 35.degree. C., used in the form of a stable aqueous dispersion, other than a styrene/ethyl acrylate/butyl acrylate copolymer, and a water-soluble binder. According to the invention, the water-soluble binder is chosen from poly(vinyl alcohol), gelatin, starches, cellulose derivatives, alginates and mixtures thereof. Application to laminated decorative coverings.

  • Patent number: 5677039
Abstract: According to the invention, it includes conductive pigments constituted by a substrate (chosen from the group including micas, talcum, kaolin, bentonites, montmorillionites or glass particles) which has a basic lamellar-type structure coated with an electroconductive layer of tin oxide doped with antimony. On at least one face, the sheet has a layer containing at least the conductive pigments having a basic lamellar-type structure and at least one hydrosoluble binder.Application as decorative paper for laminates.

  • Patent number: 5660919
Abstract: A printable sheet having a high printing quality and a high handling resistance. At least one of the sides of the sheet is treated with a composition which comprises at least one filler and at least one elastomeric binder. The elastomeric binder is selected from the group consisting of aqueous dispersions of polyurethane, acrylate copolymers, optionally carboxylated styrene-butadiene copolymers, and polymers of which one of the monomers is acrylonitrile, isoprene, or neoprene, or mixtures thereof. The sheet can be used for manufacturing protected documents.

  • Patent number: 5609966
Abstract: The invention relates to a surface sheet produced by the papermaking method used in the production of abrasion-resistant laminates comprising glass wool fibers. According to the invention, the sheet comprises, before impregnation with thermosetting resin, up to about 7% by dry weight of glass wool fibers with respect to its total dry weight. The invention finds an application as protective covering sheet called overlay and as decorative sheet.

  • Patent number: 5486928
Abstract: A new process for making an embossing punch comprises the steps of: (a) the values of an image are put into numeric form; and, (b) the punch is automatically and directly engraved. The numeric image is converted into continuous control values for a path of an engraving tool over a continuous surface and the level curves of said surface are plotted to provide the continuous engraving path. One possible application is embossing fabrics for the manufacture of watermarked paper.
