  • Patent number: 9375896
Abstract: A label material for use with water-based adhesives. The label material includes a synthetic paper having an upper surface and a lower surface. The synthetic paper includes a biaxially-oriented polymeric sheet having a voided layer. A printable coating is optionally provided on an upper surface of the polymeric sheet and an adhesive-receiving coating is provided on a lower surface of the polymeric sheet. The polymeric sheet has a density of not more than 0.55 g·cm?3. The adhesive-receiving coating includes a polymeric binder and an absorbent pigment and has a surface energy of at least 40 dyne·cm?1.

  • Patent number: 7018688
Abstract: A composition, preferably a synthetic paper, is disclosed comprising a plastics substrate having a printable polymer coating, wherein the coating has a density of from 0.3 to 0.7 g/cm3. The low density provides improved adhesion and printability properties compared with the prior art, and permits the coating to be applied in a single layer of uniform density.

  • Patent number: 6040042
Abstract: This invention relates to a formulation for making a composite plastics film or sheet comprising a polyolefin, a filler and a voiding agent, characterised in that the voiding agent is a pentaerythritol ester of maleic rosin. This is particularly suitable for use on the printable surfaces of synthetic paper. A feature of this rosin is that it minimises the yellowing of the paper.

  • Patent number: 6025058
Abstract: This invention relates to a co-extruded film or sheet comprising a base layer and at least one surface layer, characterised in that the base layer comprises a polyolefin and has a thickness greater than about 10 .mu.m, and the surface layer comprises a polyolefin and a silica filler and has a thickness less than about 5 .mu.m. The surface layer contains from 10 to 60% w/w of silica based on the polyolefin content of said surface layer. Films and sheets of this type have superior absorbent properties for imprinting media such as eg ink.

  • Patent number: 5536468
Abstract: A process is provided for creating a watermark on a polymeric sheet. The sheet is passed between abutting rollers, at least one of said rollers having a recessed and/or raised motif, to form an impression on the sheet corresponding to the motif, and then orienting by stretching the sheet. The impressed and oriented sheet has dark areas corresponding to the raised portions and light areas corresponding to recessed portion of the motif.
