The low density provides improved adhesion and printability properties compared with the prior art, and permits the coating to be applied in a single layer of uniform density.

Abstract: This invention relates to a co-extruded film or sheet comprising a base layer and at least one surface layer, characterised in that the base layer comprises a polyolefin and has a thickness greater than about 10 .mu.m, and the surface layer comprises a polyolefin and a silica filler and has a thickness less than about 5 .mu.m. The surface layer contains from 10 to 60% w/w of silica based on the polyolefin content of said surface layer. Films and sheets of this type have superior absorbent properties for imprinting media such as eg ink.
