An embodiment is disclosed wherein a feedforward algorithm can be used to control the target blend. Subsequently a feedback closed loop control loop algorithm is provided for a multivariant blend. Use of this approach allows for a continuously autoreplenished and controlled blend. Also disclosed is the ability to control via feedforward and feedback algorithms a fast responding control mode that allows for the elimination of a container. This approach will allow for “one pass” blending with control. The controller implements an automated fault detection and correction system, thereby identifying necessary maintenance prior to failure. If failure does occur the signature recognition allows rapid analysis and correction thus maximizing tool availability.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a system and method of formulating a batch comprising at least two ingredients. The ingredients are admitted to a container to partially fill it. The quantities of the ingredient in the container are determined, and a ratio of a target quantity to the determined current quantity for at least one ingredient is calculated. The next quantity of that ingredient to be admitted to the admixture is calculated by multiplying the target quantity by the calculated ratio to determine a corrected quantity. The corrected quantity of the ingredient is admitted to the admixture, and a quantity of another ingredient is admitted to the admixture to adjust the proportion of ingredients to the target formulation. These steps may be repeated until the batch is completed.

    Abstract: A method of and apparatus for separating and feeding workpieces of limp material one at a time and one another from the bottom of a stack of the workpieces wherein the stack is supported at the bottom with a gap in the support for exposing a portion of the bottom surface of the bottom workpiece, the support being movable to move the gap away from and back to a forward position. The portion of the bottom workpiece exposed in the gap in the forward position is fed rearward to form a loop in the bottom workpiece, the loop being gripped and pulled down which the support is moved to move the gap away from its forward position, the support then acting to peel the bottom workpiece away from the next workpiece above, followed by the release of the grip on the loop to release the bottom workpiece for being carried away.

    Abstract: An apparatus for forming a spread of generally thin, pliable material from a roll thereof onto a table includes a cradle for holding the roll of the material which is selectively operable to rotate the roll of material for feeding a web of material generally forwardly from the roll. An endless conveyor including a series of flights spaced at intervals therealong with openings between the flights is driven for forward travel, and the web from the roll of the material is received on and carried forward by a flight in the upper reach of the conveyor. A knife is operable to cut the web to separate a first sheet of material from the roll of material. The first sheet of material is thereafter held from forward movement with the supporting flight by grippers selectively operable for gripping the first sheet of material on the supporting flight in the upper reach of the conveyor. Thus, the supporting flight slides out from under the first sheet of material with the first sheet falling onto the table.

    Abstract: An automatic feeder for feeding workpieces of limp material one after another from a stack of workpieces, the feeder includes a moving support mechanism for supporting the stack, and a gripper located generally underneath the stack and the moving support mechanism. The gripper has a multiplicity of needles on it for gripping the bottom workpiece, and the support mechanism has an opening in it for exposing the bottom workpiece in the stack to the needles. A motor actuates relative motion between the support mechanism and the stack and the gripper and the stack such that the opening in the support mechanism and the gripper pass conjointly under the stack in a direction generally from one end of the stack to the other thereby to progressively present areas of the bottom workpiece over the opening.

    Abstract: Apparatus for automatically feeding workpieces of limp material one at a time and one after another from a stack thereof to a device for operating thereon, e.g. for feeding plies of fabric from a stack of plies to sewing apparatus, comprising an endless conveyor having spaced flights and gaps. The stack is held under an upper reach of the conveyor on a table. The space between the gaps is substantially less than the dimension of the table in the direction of travel of the upper reach of the conveyor. A pick-up is operable through the gaps to grasp the top workpiece of the stack and pick it up with the workpiece extending down in a gap. The bottom surface of the workpiece is engaged by the oncoming flight of the conveyor to complete the separation of the workpiece from the stack and to bring it to lie generally flat on the oncoming flight.

    Abstract: Apparatus for automatically inverting workpieces of limp sheet material, such as fabric sheet material, including an endless primary conveyor having a forward-traveling reach for conveying workpieces in a forward direction, each workpiece having a leading edge and a trailing edge. A gripper engages a portion of the workpiece generally adjacent its leading edge as the workpiece travels on the primary conveyor and holds the leading edge portion stationary. The primary conveyor includes a series of flights spaced at intervals therealong with openings between the flights. The trailing edge of the workpiece and the adjacent trailing edge portion drop through an opening between a leading flight and a trailing flight after the gripper engages and holds stationary the leading edge portion. A pushing mechanism acts on the trailing edge portion of the workpiece for pushing the trailing edge portion forardly to invert the trailing edge portion as the leading edge portion is held stationary by the gripper.

    Abstract: Apparatus for perforating paper including a roll for holding a supply of paper to be perforated, and a roll for taking up paper from the supply roll. The apparatus moves the paper in a forward direction along a reach extending between the supply roll and the take-up roll at a selected speed so that a perforating roller between the supply roll and the take-up roll can perforate the paper in the reach from edge to edge. The perforating roller is rotated so that its teeth travel in the same direction as the paper at the location of engagement with the paper, but the perforating roller is rotated at a rate such that the speed of the teeth is less than the speed of the paper in the forward direction along the reach.

    Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for automatically stacking pieces of limp material including an endless conveyor having a forward traveling upper reach. The conveyor has a series of flights spaced at intervals therealong with spaces between the flights. Each flight is constructed for carrying one of the pieces thereon with the piece so positioned on the flight as to have a trailing end overhanging the trailing end of the flight. The apparatus further includes a platen or table at a stacking station along the length of the upper reach of the conveyor and below the upper reach for stacking pieces thereon one upon another and for holding the stack. A gripper mechanism is engageable with an upwardly facing surface of the piece for gripping the piece to stop it from moving forward. Thereafter, as the flight travels forward it moves out from under the piece and the piece is deposited at the station for accumulation of piece one on top of another on the table.

    Abstract: Apparatus for handling workpieces of limp sheet material including an endless conveyor having a forward-traveling upper reach for conveying workpieces in a forward direction, each workpiece having a leading edge and a trailing edge. An airfoil extends transversely across the upper reach of the conveyor and a manifold rearward of the airfoil may deliver a jet of air in a generally forward direction between the conveyor and the airfoil as the workpiece travels forwardly under the airfoil such that the leading edge portion of the workpiece raises up from the conveyor toward the airfoil. A clamping mechanism forward of the airfoil receives the leading edge portion of the workpiece. A sensor detects the presence of the leading edge portion between the clamping members and sends a signal in response to which the clamping mechanism is activated to clamp the leading edge portion.

    Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for automatically inverting workpieces of limp sheet material, such as fabric sheet material. The apparatus includes an endless conveyor having a forward-traveling upper reach for conveying workpieces in a forward direction. A gripper grasps a portion of the workpiece adjacent its leading edge as the workpiece travels on the conveyor, and lifts the leading edge portion of the workpiece off the conveyor. The gripper holds the leading edge portion stationary with a trailing portion of the workpiece extending downwardly from said pick-up means. A pushing mechanism acting on a generally rearwardly facing surface of the trailing portion of the workpiece pushes the trailing portion forwardly to effect complete inversion of the trailing portion as the leading edge portion is held stationary by the gripper. The gripper releases the leading edge portion of the workpiece after the trailing portion of the workpiece has been inverted.

The glass-rate pulser is actuated upon the operation of a switch when the dispensing tap is initially opened. If the tap remains open for a period of time greater than that required to fill a glass, a timer automatically actuates the pitcher-rate pulser instead of the glass-rate pulser.
