  • Patent number: 4326541
Abstract: An improved blood sampling device particularly suited for obtaining arterial blood samples. The device includes a molded plastic carrier having front and rear needles and a valve for controlling flow between the needles. The rear needle punctures the stopper of an evacuated sampling tube when it is inserted into the carrier. The front needle is then inserted into the patient and the value, which may be a one piece device made of a resilient material such as polyurethane, is opened to allow blood to be drawn into the sampling tube.
