Abstract: A computer network device (such as an access point, a switch or a router) that has multiple user interfaces is described. During operation, the computer network device may execute program instructions for the user interfaces and a shared messaging module, where a given user interface includes an agent corresponding to an application. When a message associated with the application is received via a user interface in the user interfaces, the corresponding agent in the user interface may extract a command or operation from the message. Then, the shared messaging module may translate the command or operation into a common format of the application. Moreover, the shared messaging module may provide (or route) the translated command or operation addressed to the application via a single communication path associated with the application and the agents for the application in the user interfaces.

  • Publication number: 20240155206
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system for measuring consumption of content data having content for serially presentation is presented. The method comprises generating n random numbers, where n>0, generating a first value P1 at least in part from a cryptographic function of the n random numbers, publishing the first value P1 to a smart contract associated with a blockchain, embedding consumption monitoring data comprising the n random numbers in different temporal locations of the content data and transmitting the content data to a client device for consumption. A client device extracts each of the n random and transmits the extracted n random numbers to the smart contract associated with the blockchain. A smart contract verifies that the n random numbers match the embedded n random numbers and executes a transaction of the smart contract.

  • Publication number: 20240155151
Abstract: Particular embodiments provide a variable, BitDepth, that may be set at a value based on a number of bits used to represent pixels in pictures of a video. The variable may be used in syntax elements in HEVC, such as the HEVC range extension, but other coding standards may be used. By using the variable, different resolutions for the video may be accommodated during the encoding and decoding process. For example, the number of pixels in the pictures may be represented by 8 bits, 10 bits, 12 bits, or another number of bits depending on the resolution. Using the BitDepth variable in the syntax provides flexibility in the motion estimation and motion compensation process. For example, syntax elements used in the weighted prediction process may take into account different numbers of bits used to represent the pictures.

Abstract: A system and method of defining a plane for planar coding in JVET in which first and second lines can be defined based upon pixels in left-adjacent and top-adjacent coding units. In some embodiments, the least squares method can be employed to define the relevant lines. One point along each of the lines can then be identified and the y-intercepts of the two lines can be averaged to obtain a third point. The three points can then be used to identify and define a plane for planar coding in JVET.

  • Publication number: 20240146937
Abstract: A method for inter-coding video is provided in which transmission bandwidth requirements associated with second motion vectors for bi-directional temporal prediction is reduced. In the method motion vector information for only one of the two motion vectors for bi-directional temporal prediction can be transmitted together with information on how to derive or construct the second motion vector. Thus, rather than sending express information regarding two motion vectors, express information related to only one motion vector along with information related to reconstruction/derivation of the second motion vector is transmitted, thus reducing bandwidth requirements and increasing coding efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20240146904
Abstract: Particular embodiments may remove a condition check in the semantics for checking a high-precision data flag. This simplifies the semantics used in the encoding and decoding process. In this case, even if the high-precision data flag is not set, the value of the weighted prediction syntax element is set by the BitDepth variable. However, even if the BitDepth is not considered high-precision data, such as 8 bits, the range for the weighted prediction syntax element is still the same as the fixed value. For example, the syntax elements luma_offset_l0[i], luma_offset_l1[i], delta_chroma_offset_l0[i][j], and delta_chroma_offset_l1[i][j] use the variable BitDepth as described above whether the flag extended_precision_processing_flag is enabled and not enabled to indicate whether the bit depth is above a threshold.

  • Publication number: 20240146939
Abstract: A method for determining a resampling filter for resampling a video signal used in scalable video coding includes estimating a set of row filters based on a video signal. The video signal has a base resolution that is resampled to provide an output signal that enables more efficient coding of the video signal with an enhanced resolution higher than a base resolution. The set of row filters is applied to the video signal to generate a first output signal having rows that are interpolated to the enhanced resolution. A set of column filters is estimated based on the first output signal for resampling the columns in the video signal. The set of column filters is applied to the first output signal to generate a second output signal having columns as well as rows that are interpolated to the enhanced resolution.

Abstract: During operation, the computer may obtain an access acceptance message, where the access acceptance message indicates that the electronic device has been authenticated and allowed to securely access a network, and where the authentication is based at least in part on a passphrase associated with a user of an electronic device. For example, the computer may receive the acceptance message from the computer network device or a second computer (such as a controller). Alternatively, the computer may obtain the access acceptance message while performing the authentication. Then, the computer may automatically provide a second passphrase addressed to a computer network device and the electronic device, where the second passphrase replaces the passphrase during a current session of the electronic device in the network. Moreover, when the current session ends, the computer may automatically revert to the passphrase for subsequent authentication of the user.
