Patent number: 8266424Abstract: A certificate credential is generated based on a user device's private key securely stored, or accessible, by a certificate authority. When the certificate authority has been compromised, the credential, which typically includes information encrypted with the device's private key and the corresponding unencrypted information, is sent to the device. The device receives the information in encrypted and unencrypted form and decrypts the encrypted information. If the result of the decryption matches the unencrypted information, the device trusts the signer of the credential.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2006Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventor: Ali Negahdar

Patent number: 8250603Abstract: An in-context interactive television ticker is provided. The ticker is rendered on a display screen that also shows a television program, and presents ticker content that is in-context with subject matter of the television program. The ticker remains rendered and context-sensitive to the subject matter of the currently shown television program, whenever there is a change in the television program, such as when the subject matter of the current television program changes, when a commercial interruption occurs during the television program, or when the television channel is changed. The ticker is interactive in that the viewer can perform various interactive operations with the ticker, including interacting with the ticker to obtain additional information related to an in-context item presented by the ticker.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2010Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventor: Paul G. Patent number: 8245257Abstract: Set top boxes (STBs) query a source of electronic program guide (EPG) data to request only the EPG data that it needs. Thus, instead of downloading the entire set of EPG data, the STBs query the source for only a limited amount of EPG data, such as data for the next 2-3 hours of programming. STBs can dynamically request additional EPG data if it needs to do so while a user is perusing the EPG, such as when the user requests additional EPG data that may not have been previously downloaded. Updates and corrections to pieces of EPG data can be efficiently made and sent to the STB, when that EPG data is needed, rather than being sent only during regularly scheduled times along with the entire set of EPG data.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2002Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventor: Armando P. Stettner

Patent number: 8225353Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for efficiently scheduling incoming information objects so that timely objects from a variety of content classes are scheduled for broadcast. The incoming information objects are preferably received from one or more information sources, and are tagged with attributes that associate each object with one or more classes of information (e.g., sports, news, etc.), and provide a gauge of the timeliness or ‘age’ of the object. The tags can be used to select and broadcast objects from a variety of classes, and to identify the most timely objects at any give time.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2009Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventor: Jonathan K. Patent number: 8223934Abstract: A fax-only MIB stores a value that is used as a counter of a timer. Upon initiating or receiving a call at an endpoint with which the fax-only MIB value is associated, a user device that provides the endpoint begins a timer based on the MIB value. During the timer period processing circuitry and/or software of the user device associated with the endpoint determines whether a tone generated/received by a call being initiated/received is a fax or modem tone. If the device determines that such a tone has been generated/received, a call corresponding to the tone is processed. If the device does not determine that a fax/modem tone has been generated/received, the call being initiated or received at the endpoint is dropped.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2007Date of Patent: July 17, 2012Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventor: William C. Hare, Jr.

Patent number: 8218438Abstract: A token bucket instantiation regulate packets in a traffic flow stream based on a predetermined peak traffic flow rate. The token bucket size is nominally set to zero. An evaluation is made at a device that has received a given packet. The packet is considered conforming and is passed from the device if the token depth of the bucket is zero or greater. The token depth is decreased by the number of byes in the packet that was passed. The token depth is continuously replenished at a predetermined token rate until the predetermined bucket size is attained (the bucket is full). A received packet is deemed nonconforming if the token depth is less than zero; the non-conforming packet is not passed but is processed according to non-conforming criteria. Token bucket instantiations may be implemented in hardware, software or firmware for each traffic flow to regulate traffic to a given user.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2010Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: ARRIS Group, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Howe, Steve Sanders, Randy Olenz, Steven Krapp

Publication number: 20120151542Abstract: Systems and methods can provide bandwidth sharing and statistical multiplexing between video and data streams. In some implementations, such systems and methods can associate and allocate input data streams to enable prioritization logic and parameters. Such systems and methods can multiplex on a per-packet basis and/or over a transmission interval T. The multiplexing function can then combines with varying optimization methods such as bandwidth sharing, statistical multiplexing, channel bonding, and rate shaping, thereby increasing efficiency while maintaining quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2011Publication date: June 14, 2012Applicant: ARRIS GROUP, INC.Inventors: Alon Shafrir, Amit Eschet
