  • Patent number: 6572768
Abstract: An oil filter apparatus comprises a housing formed to include an interior region and an aperture, a drainage valve positioned in the interior region for movement relative to the housing between an opened position allowing oil to drain out of the interior region through the aperture and a closed position blocking drainage of oil out of the interior region through the aperture, a filter module positioned in the interior region to filter oil, a valve actuator coupled to the filter module, and an anti-rotation device positioned to block rotation of the filter module relative to the housing to guide the valve actuator into communication with the drainage valve to move the drainage valve to the closed position when the filter module is installed in the interior region.

  • Patent number: 6501042
Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing an exhaust processor comprising: a clamping device for applying a predetermined clamping pressure to clamp a case or other component of the exhaust processor about a substrate or other component of the exhaust processor to define a gap between the case and substrate; a measuring device for measuring a size of the gap during application of the predetermined clamping pressure, the measuring device including a clamping pressure control system for adjusting the predetermined clamping pressure of the clamping device in response to the gap measurement so that the gap size is within a predetermined range; and a welder for welding a portion of the case component to an other portion of the caset when the gap size is within the predetermined range. The measuring device also includes a camera for measuring the gap size.

  • Patent number: 6467570
Abstract: An exhaust processor includes a housing formed to include an interior region and a partition or first spark arrester that partitions the interior region into chambers and includes a wool filter formed to include an opening. The wool filter is positioned to filter unburned carbon particles from combustion product generated by a vehicle engine. The exhaust processor further includes an outer conduit that extends through the opening formed in the wool filter and is formed to include a passage and an inner conduit that extends into the passage and is formed to include an opening through which unburned carbon particles flow from inside the inner conduit to impinge against the outer conduit so that the outer and inner conduits operate as a second spark arrester.

  • Patent number: 6464863
Abstract: A transmission fluid filter assembly includes a filter media, a fluid discharge conduit associated with the filter media, a magnetic particle trap, and a connector arranged to lie under the filter media and the magnetic particle trap. The connector is adapted to be coupled to a filter mount provided at an opening in a transmission pan to support the filter media, fluid discharge conduit, and magnetic particle trap in an interior region of a transmission pan containing transmission fluid to be filtered. The magnetic particle trap attracts and retains particles of ferrous material to minimize discharge of such particles from the transmission pan through the fluid discharge conduit.
