  • Publication number: 20070164243
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method, apparatus, and system of an inline direct acting solenoid pilot valve. The valve has a solenoid assembly with a longitudinally moveable core assembly that shifts alternatively between sealing engagement on a lower first end of the core assembly with a pilot port formed in a poppet and sealing engagement on an opposite upper end with a stationary pilot exhaust port in the solenoid assembly. The core assembly can move in the same or opposite direction than the poppet and thus is independently moveable from the poppet to effect the various modes of operation. Because the movement is independent, the core assembly can advantageously operate within the solenoid with a shorter stroke to produce a higher overall force per length relative to a conventional core assembly stroke that is longer than the poppet stroke. The overall design allows a more compact and simplified design.

  • Patent number: 6968851
Abstract: A double block valve and a valve proving system are disclosed. The double block valve is actuated by a single actuator and includes a valve body housing a cavity. The cavity defines an upstream portion with a fluid inlet and a downstream portion with a fluid outlet. A seating assembly is interposed between the upstream and the downstream portions. A first and a second blocking element are disposed in the valve body and are both movable within the cavity between opened and closed positions. With the first and second blocking elements both contacting the seating assembly, the space therebetween defines an enclosed space with a finite volume. The proving system is used for two safety shut-off valves on a valve train, such as a double block valve. The proving system connects to an enclosed space established between the two safety shut-off valves and includes a pair of three-way valves, oppositely biased pressure switches, and a pump, all of which are interconnected through pneumatic conduits.

  • Publication number: 20030201414
Abstract: An extended range proportional valve which can control rates of mass flow over continuous low, intermediate and high ranges has a pilot member mounted on an armature of a solenoid which can be dithered onto and off of a pilot opening in a main valve member which seals a main valve opening to control mass flow rates over the low range by varying the duty cycle and/or frequency of a pulse width modulated current in the solenoid coil. Intermediate and high flow rates are achieved by dithering the pilot valve member with a duty cycle and/or frequency sufficient to raise the main valve member relatively short and relatively long respective distances from the main valve seat.

  • Publication number: 20020175791
Abstract: An improved solenoid is provided that has a fully enclosing yoke with integral end cap and sleeve. A second, separate, or alternatively integral end cap with sleeve is provided to complete the magnetic yoke. The yoke/coil assembly is encapsulated with a liquid crystal polymer that has a melting temperature higher than the melting temperature of the coil bobbin to provide a good bond therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20020157713
Abstract: A linear actuator monitors and distinguishes between the open and closed states of a valve. The states of the actuator are monitored electrically by two switches and visually via a mechanical indicator. The electrical switches are initialized by an adjustable system, according to the random position of the valve stem when it is opened or closed. The visual indicator is also adjusted to an initial position corresponding to the valve stem position. The adjustment of the system allows for flexibility and use on a wide range of valve stems with various stroke lengths. The visual indicator is visible from the top and the sides of the unit. It is visible on the circumference of the unit so that it is visible at an angle as well. The visual indicator matches three possible states of the valve as follows: when the valve is closed, the indicator is not visible, when the valve is either opening or closing, only one indication area is visible, and when the valve is fully open, two indication areas are visible.

  • Patent number: 6447028
Abstract: A fitting for connecting two components is described. The fitting may be explosion proof for use in hazardous environments. The fitting may swivel allowing fast and easy connection to fixed components, thus minimizing the time required for installation and periodic maintenance, while maintaining the integrity of the explosion proof fitting. In this way, components—such as electrical conduits containing conductors or wires—can be installed and maintained without the use of damming material. Also described is a method of installing an explosion proof fitting for use in hazardous environments.

  • Patent number: 6242909
Abstract: A visual position indicator has a stator and a rotor with angularly displaced eccentricities for engaging corresponding spring biased actuators with magnets. Depending on the rotor position relative to the stator, one or more of the actuators is moved to a position whereat the field of its respective magnet can operate a magnetic switch disposed in a hermetically sealed housing. A decoder connected to the switches can produce a signal indicative of rotor position.
