Publication number: 20170014579Abstract: A needle device has a needle assembly including a hub having one end fitted with a blunt cannula. The blunt cannula has a base section, a central section and a shaft having a distal apertured end. The needle of the needle assembly extends through an internal passage of the blunt cannula and is sealingly fitted to a portion of the internal passage. The hub of the needle assembly has another end connectable to a syringe. When the device is connected to a syringe, a fluid communication path is established between the apertured end of the shaft and the interior of the syringe via the lumen of the needle. The shaft of the blunt cannula is usable to pierce the seal of a fluid store while maintaining the needle in an unused state for subsequent patient use. The distal end of the shaft may be protected by an end cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2016Publication date: January 19, 2017Applicant: SMITHS MEDICAL ASD, INC.Inventor: Troy M. Derby

Publication number: 20160335594Abstract: A receiving box receives items for later retrieval by an enterprise. Upon an amount of received items being detected within the receiving box, a report is sent to the enterprise. A detector detects an amount of the received items in the receiving box and outputs a corresponding signal. A controller receives the signal and determines based thereon whether a triggering event has occurred. The triggering event represents that the receiving box has an amount of received items therein such that a person or service should be dispatched from the enterprise to the receiving box to empty same. A reporter is employed by the controller to report the triggering event as a message to the enterprise upon the controller determining that the triggering event has occurred.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2015Publication date: November 17, 2016Applicant: ASD INC., A PA CORP.Inventors: Martin CZACHOR, JR., Kevin CZACHOR, Norman FRANKE, Gary FOSTER

Publication number: 20160195075Abstract: A pump has a housing having at least one inlet, one outlet, and an internal track with a given configuration. A piston movably positioned inside the housing has at least one protuberance movably mated to the track. As the piston is reciprocally driven by a motor, it is guided by the movement of the protuberance along the track to move bidirectionally along the housing and selectively rotate such that when the piston is moved to a first position, a fluid path is established through the inlet to enable fluid to be input into the housing. When the piston is moved to a second position, another fluid path is established through the outlet so that fluid is output from the housing. Multiple chambers may be formed in the housing to enable synchronous and selective opening and closing of respective inlets and outlets to enhance fluid flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 15, 2014Publication date: July 7, 2016Applicant: SMITHS MEDICAL ASD, INC.Inventor: Grant ADAMS

Patent number: 9364651Abstract: A clam shell shaped adapter for connecting a fluid output device and a fluid input device to establish a fluid path between the fluid output and input devices has first and second shells integrally connected by a living hinge. The first shell has a connector fitting end and a catheter end connected by a tubing. The fluid output device may be a catheter that is matable to the catheter end. A retainer structure in the adapter fixedly retains the catheter when the first and second shells close upon each other. Respective latch mechanisms provided at the first and second shells lockingly couple the first and second shells to each other. The fitting end has a given configuration that prevents the fitting end from mating with a counterpart conventional luer fitting but enables the fitting end to mate with a counterpart connector fitting that has a special configuration that mirrors the given configuration.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2013Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: SMITHS MEDICAL ASD, INC.Inventor: Geoff Clark
