  • Patent number: 5339672
Abstract: A method for continuously monitoring gas dissolved in oil and includes placing a separator cell (1) in a conduit which extends from the upper part of an oil-cooled transformer and which is connected to the lower part of the transformer tank. The interior of the separator cell is divided by an inner glass filter (3) into two parts and the oil which flows through the separator and the glass filter is collected in the lower part of the separator. Through a pump (10) connected in the conduit from the separator to the lower part of the transformer tank, the oil level of the collected oil is maintained at a constant level. Between the glass filter and the collected oil, a gas compartment (5) is formed which contains gases extracted from the oil with a composition and concentrations uniquely determined by those gases dissolved within the oil. A gas sensor (6) is connected between the upper and lower parts of this compartment.

  • Patent number: 5325259
Abstract: An overvoltage protective device for a series capacitor (C) has a main spark gap and a first auxilary spark gap, arranged adjacent thereto, for ignition of the main spark gap. A second auxiliary spark gap is arranged in association with the first auxiliary gap for ignition thereof. The first and second auxiliary spark gaps are connected between one of the electrodes of the the main spark gap and a voltage divider which comprises resistors (R1, R2, R3 ) and a varisistor (VR1) . When the knee voltage of the varisistor is exceeded, the second auxiliary spark gap is ignited, the arc of which initiates ignition of the first auxiliary spark gap, the arc of which in turn moves towards and ignites the main spark gap. During the arcing time of the spark gap, a controlled discharge of the series capacitor through a resistor (R2) takes place.

  • Patent number: 5317473
Abstract: The invention relates to a surge arrester assembly with a plurality of parallel-connected arrester units (1) with polymer casing mounted in a rack. The lower and upper parts of the rack consist of bars (4a, 4b) of, for example, aluminium, which are included in the electric circuit. The bars are retained by, for example, support insulators (6) of porcelain or polymer material. The mechanical retention of the stacks of ZnO blocks of the arrester units (1) and the necessary contact pressure between the blocks are ensured by the rack structure. The electrical connections (23, 24) to the rack are arranged in such a way that, if a fault causing a short circuit in one of the block stacks occurs, the arc produced is blown by the current forces along the bars to the opposite end, where arcing horns (38) of a current-resistant material, for example steel, are arranged and where the arc may burn in a controlled manner without involving a risk to the environment. • Patent number: 5296662
Abstract: An electric switching device according to the invention comprises two fixed contacts and one movable contact, referred to jointly as the main contact system. The main contact system is located in an oil-insulated cavity enclosed in a housing. In its direction of movement, the movable contact has an extension in the form of a shaft. The shaft is formed with a hydraulic piston by which the movable contact is operated. The hydraulic piston is surrounded by a cavity in which a piston cavity is formed on each side of the hydraulic piston. The piston cavities are oil-filled. The movement of the shaft is determined by an electrically controlled directional valve. The directional valve receives signals as to whether the electric switching device is to be opened or closed. At a given signal, the directional valve distributes a high pressure to the piston cavity that is to be enlarged.
