  • Patent number: 6471238
Abstract: An air-bag 12 is designed to vertically expand after transversely expanding while being inflated. The air-bag 12 having a substantially circular shape is folded from its opposite ends toward its middle along a direction “a” corresponding to vertical direction and rolled in an opposite direction, is then folded in a zigzag manner one fold over another from its opposite ends toward its middle along a direction “b” (transverse direction), and is accommodated in a container casing 14. Accordingly, the inventive air-bag device and air-bag folding method can suppress an inflation (expansion) of the air-bag toward a passenger at an early stage of the inflation of the air-bag, promote a transverse expansion more than a vertical expansion of the air-bag at the early stage of the inflation, and prevent a blow out of a gas toward the passenger.

  • Patent number: 6276626
Abstract: In seat belt retractor, a coupling mechanism is provided that allows torsional deformation of spindle shaft when a vehicle emergency occurs until the torsional deformation rotation of the left end of spindle shaft with respect to the part near its right end reaches a prescribed value, and when the torsional deformation rotation reaches the prescribed value, it couples the part near the right end of spindle shaft and winding drum so that they cannot rotate relative to each other, and the composition has been made such that when a vehicle emergency occurs, the kinetic energy of the passenger is absorbed and ultimately the passenger is securely restrained by the webbing.

  • Patent number: 6155621
Abstract: An automotive roll-up partitioning system includes a pair of roll-up devices providing a pair of partitioning members to separate one volume of a vehicle from a second volume. The partitioning members protect the passengers from forward moving of baggage caused by, for example, a rapid deceleration of the automobile. Each roll up device includes a lock mechanisms detecting that the partitioning member is rapidly pulled out, stopping the rotation of a roll-up shaft of the roll-up device. With a partitioning system so designed, the seat backs can be independently reclined and positioned upright while the partitioning members maintain their protective feature.

  • Patent number: 5671778
Abstract: The present invention provides a repairing tube to be used in pipe lines such as gas conduits, water supply lines and sewer lines, chiefly those buried in the ground, for the purpose of repairing the pipe lines. More particularly, the present invention relates to a repairing tube including a rigid pipe formed of thermoplastic resin and a tubular woven fabric and a method for repairing or reinforcing a pipe line with the repairing tube. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for removing the repairing tube in its collapsed form out of the pipe line, for example when the repairing tube installed in the pipe line has become superannuated or it has been collapsed for some reason or other to impair the function of the pipe line and hence it is desired to reline the pipe line.

  • Patent number: 5485971
Abstract: This invention relates to locking means for a seat belt retractor equipped with an emergency lock which, in an emergency, locks the withdrawal of webbing. The locking means of the retractor includes a ratchet wheel (16) and a pawl (32). The pawl has two teeth, and the pawl and the ratchet wheel are positioned in such a way that when the load on the webbing is relatively small only one of the teeth of the pawl engages with a tooth of the ratchet wheel and there is a small gap between the other tooth of the pawl and the tooth of the ratchet wheel corresponding thereto. When the load on the webbing is relatively large both of the teeth of the pawl engage with teeth of the ratchet wheel. As a result, because the load on each tooth is half of what it is when the pawl has one tooth only, twice the torque can be withstood and the diameter of the ratchet wheel can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5333649
Abstract: An apparatus for blocking the openings of a branched pipe (2) in a branched portion of a pipeline (1) prior to lining the inner surface of the pipeline (1) with a tubular lining material (100) for maintenance/repair or reinforcement purposes includes a spring-biased plug-housing assembly which carries a plurality of plugs for blocking the branch pipe openings. The plugs are installed one at a time into the branch pipe openings and are retained in the openings by a friction fit. The plug-housing assembly dispenses one plug at a time without the possibility of inadvertent dispensing of the remaining unused plugs. The plugs have cut-away portions in the outer periphery thereof, which cut-away portions cooperate for storage and installation purposes with struts on the plug-housing assembly.

  • Patent number: 5178193
Abstract: Continuous production of a long bias cloth is accomplished by manufacturing a tubular fabric on a circular loom having a circular frame, reeds arranged on the frame and a shuttle for a weft rotatable along the frame. The fabric is removed from the loom under tension by a removal device comprising a primary pillar core with a plurality of caterpillars adjacent its outer periphery. Removal under tension prevents the formation of any edge portion causing folds and wrinkles in the tubular fabric. The tubular fabric is then spirally cut by a cutting device which has a secondary pillar core with a plurality of feed rolls adjacent its outer periphery. The feed rolls are capable of moving the fabric forward relative to its length, while the cutter is capable of moving circumferentially relative to fabric lengbth. A long bias cloth of high quality can be manufactured continuously, even when the warp and weft fibers used have high-strength and poor or low elongation.
