Abstract: A tilt-latch (10) adapted for releasably securing a pivotable sash window (12) disposed within opposed guide rails (16) on a master frame (14) of a window sash assembly (11) is disclosed. The sash window (12) comprises a top sash rail (20), a base (22) and two stiles (24,26) connected together at their extremities. The tilt-latch (10) comprises a housing (42) adapted to be supported by the top rail (20). The housing (42) has an outward end opening (44) and a tongue (76) extending along a bottom wall (45) of the housing (42). The housing (42) also has a cover (51) having an elongated opening (70) defining a pair of rails (72,74). The housing (42) further has an outer edge (110). A latch bolt (46) is disposed within the housing (42) and has a nose (47) adapted for engaging a respective one of the guide rails (16). The latch bolt (46) has a first bolt channel (82) in cooperative sliding engagement with the first tongue (76).

Abstract: A sulfur in oil in asphalt blend is disclosed. A polymer-free slurry of solid, elemental, sulfur in liquid oil is used to add sulfur to asphalt. Addition of a slurry of solid sulfur in oil, or oil containing sulfur compounds, permits rapid and effective dispersion of the sulfur component in the asphalt. Uneven mixing, which can occur when sulfur is separately added as a solid, or in molten forms to the asphalt, is avoided. The method is safer because formation of explosive clouds of sulfur dust is avoided.

Abstract: Reformulated gasoline (RFG) testing recently required by EPA involves measuring sulfur, olefin, aromatic contents, Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP), and benzene, distillation properties, plus total air pollutants (TAPs), volatile organic carbon (VOC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Measuring driveability, although not required, is desirable. All of these tests can be conducted by spectrometer, preferably in the IR range, more preferably in the NIR range, and most preferably by a single instrument operating at high-correlation wavelengths. Importantly, VOC, TAP, NOx, and RVP may be correlated to IR absorbance at certain bands. Statistical methods including PLS, MLR, PCR, and neural networks can be used and derivatives of first, particularly second, or other orders can be used. Results can be displayed on a single screen.

Abstract: A method is provided for improving high temperature performance grade properties of unblown asphalt by i) heating an asphalt cement to 200.degree. F. to 500.degree. F. (93.degree. C. to 260.degree. C.), ii) adding 0.1 wt. % to 10 wt. % ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer based on weight of said asphalt cement to the heated asphalt cement, iii) adding 0.05 wt. % to 1.0 wt. % phosphorus-containing acid, e.g., polyphosphoric acid, based on weight of said asphalt cement and iv) mixing the resulting blend, thereby providing an unblown asphalt composition of greater useful temperature index (UTI). Abstract: A sulfur in oil in asphalt and polymer blend is disclosed. An asphalt and polymer blend is first prepared and then a slurry of solid sulfur in liquid oil added. Addition of a slurry of solid sulfur in oil or oil containing sulfur compounds, permits rapid and effective uniform dispersion of the sulfur component in the asphalt/polymer blend. Abstract: This invention relates to exothermic and/or insulating sleeves, their method of preparation, and their use. The sleeves are prepared by shaping a sleeve mix comprising (1) a sleeve composition capable of providing a sleeve, and (2) a chemical binder. The sleeves are cured in the presence of a catalyst by the cold-box or no-bake curing process. The invention also relates to a process for casting metal parts using a casting assembly where the sleeves are a component of the casting assembly. Additionally, the invention relates to the metal parts produced by the casting process.
Abstract: A chemical fluid valve transfer (e.g., load/unload) assembly is formed from a male valve assembly and a female valve assembly. The male valve assembly is fitted with a male connector which houses a chamber that is connected to a flush inlet line, and a flush outlet line, and a chemical transport line. The female valve assembly is fitted with a female connector which mates with the male valve assembly male connector for interconnecting the male valve and female valve assemblies, and fitted with a chemical transport line. Another aspect of the present invention is a method for transferring a chemical fluid between a tanker fitted with a female coupler and a fill/unload station fitted with a male coupler and hose assembly. This method involves the connecting of the tanker hose and the fill station hose with the valve assembly described above.

Abstract: Asphaltene concentration of a hydrocarbon feed is measured by IR spectroscopy using mid-range IR frequencies between 3800 cm.sup.-1 and 650 cm.sup.-1 (corresponding to wavelengths between 2630 nanometers (nm) and 15,380 nm) together with mathematical techniques and statistical techniques in which measurements of absorption are made, and combines these with multiple regression analysis, or other statistical technique and modeling to determine asphaltene concentration. The output signal can be used to control refinery and chemical processes, e.g., atmospheric crude column, vacuum distillation column, solvent deasphalting and visbreaking.
Abstract: A process is provided for recovering lube oil base stocks from used lubricating oil formulations containing base oil stock and organo-metallic component which obviates preseparation of water and light hydrocarbons contaminants. The process comprises directly contacting used lubricating oil with a heated vapor, e.g., steam, under conditions which at least partially decompose the organo-metallic component and provide a desired volume of pumpable bottoms containing organo-metallic compound decomposition products and an overhead comprising gases and distillatable hydrocarbons, with no substantial carryover of metals into the overhead. The process may be carried out under conditions which minimize decomposition of high molecular weight additives such as VI improvers, to provide a bottoms fraction which may be added to asphalt or fuel oil.

Abstract: A process for monitoring and controlling an aqueous system. At least one performance parameter relating to conditions within the aqueous system is selected. A value of the at least one performance parameter is measured to serve as a baseline value.
