Patent number: 4754877Abstract: At intermittent self catheterization it is, for a wider use of the method, desirable to enable repeated use of a catheter, preferably a limited number of times. This applies also to surface coated catheters having low friction in wet condition (LoFric.RTM.). For this purpose the invention provides a wetting and storage device for a catheter, which device comprises an elongated carrying strip (1) provided with means for retaining a catheter. The device is characterized in that, along one side of said strip there is arranged a wetting pocket (2) closed at one end thereof in which a liquid (6) may be filled and in which a catheter (7) may be introduced for wetting thereof, and that on said strip there is further arranged at least one sheet (8,9,27) of porous material, under which a catheter may be put in for drying and storage. By providing the device with a number of tablets (5) (e.g.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1986Date of Patent: July 5, 1988Assignee: Astra Meditec AktiebolagInventors: Eva G. Johansson, Jan M. R. Patent number: 4729766Abstract: The invention relates to a vascular prosthesis in the form of a flexible tube which can be implanted in animals or human beings, with a regular pattern of blind holes in the external surface of the tube, which are regular with regard to direction, transverse dimensions and depth and are produced by laser treatment. The invention also relates to a method of producing such a vascular prosthesis consisting in that the holes are produced by means of pulsated laser beams along one or more helical lines, the tube being rotated and displaced axially at the same time.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1985Date of Patent: March 8, 1988Assignee: Astra Meditec AktiebolagInventors: Sven E. Patent number: 4673584Abstract: A process for providing a surface of glass, silicon, aluminum or silicone rubber of an article useful within medicine with a bicompatible surface layer. Said surface is reacted (after oxidation when required) with a silane containing at least one epoxy group and the surface thus treated is then reacted with a polysaccharide containing at least one hydroxyl group. The invention also relates to an article exhibiting a biocompatible surface layer of a polysaccharide containing at least one hydroxyl group, which polysaccharide is covalently bound to a surface of glass, silicon, aluminum or silicone rubber of the article by means of a silane.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1986Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Assignee: Astra Meditec ABInventors: Bo H. Nygren, Johan E. Stenberg

Patent number: 4666437Abstract: A process for coating a polymer surface with a hydrophilic coating with low friction in wet condition. The process comprises applying to the polymer surface a solution containing between 0.05 to 40% of a compound which comprises at least two unreacted isocyanate groups per molecule, evaporating the solvent, applying a solution containing between 0.5 to 50% of polyvinylpyrrolidone to the thus treated polymer surface and then evaporating the solvent of the last mentioned solution, and curing the coating at elevated temperature. The process is preferably carried out in the presence of a catalyst for the curing of isocyanate.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1986Date of Patent: May 19, 1987Assignee: Astra Meditec AktiebolagInventor: Hans R. Lambert

Patent number: 4629159Abstract: Valve-provided tube connecting device to connection with a liquid line intended to be connected to a patient, preferably for draining of body liquids. Said connection device consists of a drip chamber house, a connecting house containing a spring loaded valve body, which connecting house is designed to connection with a connector. The valve body consists of a conical upper sealing part, a guide part and a solid, conical lower sealing part. The device attained a closed system, which decreases the risk of bacteria infections and spillage.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Astra Meditec ABInventor: Kjell I.
