  • Patent number: 6405526
Abstract: A solid fuel propulsion system for a ran jet rocket having a combustion chamber (B) surrounded by a tubular casing (2) and a gas generator (G) disposed upstream from the combustion chamber (B) and surrounded by a tubular casing (1) for generation of a combustible gas from a solid fuel, disposed between the gas generator (G) and the combustion chamber (B) is a gas-stream regulator unit (R) for regulation of the flow of the combustible gas from the gas generator (G) to the combustion chamber (B). The propulsion system has a middle section (4) in which the gas stream regulator unit (R) is housed. The middle section is connected in a load-bearing manner with the combustion chamber casing (2) and the gas generator casing (1) and is provided with a first pressure head (8) sealing the gas generator (G), and a second pressure head (9) sealing the combustion chamber (B). Disposed between the pressure heads (8, 9) is a base unit which houses the gas stream regulator unit (R) and braces the pressure heads (8, 9).

  • Patent number: 6378290
Abstract: A high-frequency ion source, in particular a high-frequency ion engine, includes a discharge chamber or container (2), a source (9) providing a gas to be ionized, a gas inlet (10) discharging the gas from the source into the discharge container (2) to be ionized therein, a high-frequency coil (3) surrounding the discharge container (2), and a high-frequency generator (4) connected to the high-frequency coil (3), for generating a high-frequency electromagnetic alternating field that ionizes the gas present in the discharge container (2). Furthermore, an acceleration grid (11) connected to an acceleration voltage source (12) is arranged at the open end of the discharge container (2) so as to accelerate the ions generated in the discharge container (2) in the form of an ion beam emanating from the discharge container (2). The shape of the discharge container (2) in longitudinal section is tapered to become smaller toward the closed end (6) opposite the open end (5) of the container.

  • Patent number: 6361018
Abstract: A coaxial valve includes an actuating drive, a valve housing (11), a valve sleeve (12) that is longitudinally slidable in the valve housing (11) between open and closed positions, and a closing body (13) arranged coaxially at one end of the valve sleeve (12). In the closed position, the valve sleeve seals against the closing body. In the open position, the valve sleeve is spaced from the closing body, to open a valve opening cross-section (V). The actuating drive includes an electric servomotor (21) with a linear actuator (22), and a transmission mechanism (30) for transmitting the linear movement of the actuator to the valve sleeve. The transmission mechanism includes a rocker lever with a first end articulately connected to the linear actuator, a second end articulately connected to the valve housing, and a middle section articulately connected to the valve sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6315719
Abstract: A system for long-term remote medical monitoring is especially suitable for the medical supervision of astronauts onboard a space station. The system includes at least one autonomous sensor unit (SU) with a sensor (1) and transmit/receive electrodes (2) connected to a microchip (3) and mounted on a carrier (4) in the form of an adhesive bandage that can easily be applied to the skin of the subject astronaut (11). The system further includes a body transceiver (10) that is worn on the body of the subject and acts as a centralized transmitting and receiving unit, and a portable data logger (12). Medical data such as the pulse rate and the like, as well as environmental data such as the ambient surrounding air temperature, are sensed by respective allocated sensor units (SU) and transmitted from the sensor units as electrical signals via the skin and other body tissues of the subject (11) to the body transceiver (10).

  • Patent number: 6229501
Abstract: An antenna reflector for satellites or space vehicles having a number of hexagonal individual reflectors (1) which can be arranged around a rigid central element (2). The reflectors (1) are connected to the central element (2) by a support structure (3) that can collapse to hold the reflectors in a compact storage state or be extended to deploy the reflectors. The reflectors (1) are folded like an umbrella in a transport state when the reflectors are collapsed and at the place of use, they are brought into their operating positions and spread out, so that they collectively form a reflector surface. Each reflector (1) has a foldable surface structure connected by a multiple number of ribs (11) to a rigid, central structure (12).
