  • Patent number: 4221498
Abstract: An improved roadside reflector assembly which when mounted alongside a road is continuously visible by retroreflected light by the driver of a vehicle moving along the road at night-time within a viewing angle of from about 0.degree. to 60.degree. relative thereto, where 0.degree. extends substantially parallelly to a tangent to the road in the region where such reflector assembly is located. Also, such driver continuously sees retroreflected light at any given instant of time while approaching and passing a group of the reflector means so employed and so located, the individual such reflector means being longitudinally spaced from one another along such a road.

  • Patent number: 4196889
Abstract: A hand-held, powered, portable winch is provided with a unique planetary gear reduction unit that couples the motor to a winch drum. Controls are provided in a carrying handle for energizing a clutch to actuate rotation of the drum while simultaneously controlling the speed of the motor. The gear reduction unit is uniquely stabilized against racking loads on the gears and against radial loads imposed by the clutch. The winch is uniquely used in a method for hoisting by attaching the winch to the load with the hoisting line attached remotely to a fixed object. In this manner the load and the winch are drawn to the fixed object.

  • Patent number: 4128326
Abstract: A chemical dispensing system having its most important use in dispensing flowable developing and finishing chemicals upon exposed lithographic printing plates comprises a supply container for each of the chemicals positioned immediately above the dispensing station therefor, each supply container containing continuously moving stirring means for keeping the chemical continuously in motion to homogenize the same. A number of flexible, laterally spaced dispensing tubes extend downwardly from each supply container, and a flow control valve is provided for each tube which pinches it into a closed position at a point near the container so that the volume of liquid which remains in the tube between the tube pinch point and the container is relatively small.

  • Patent number: 4123181
Abstract: An improved roadside marker system wherein each individual reflector means is continuously visible by the driver of a vehicle moving along the roads surface at night-time from an angle of 0.degree. to 60.degree. where 0.degree. extends substantially parallelly to a tangent to the road side portion in the region where each respective one of the reflector means is located. Also, such driver continuously sees retroreflected light at any given instant of time while approaching and passing a group of the reflector means so employed and so located.

  • Patent number: 4103352
Abstract: A transporting trailer or transporter is provided with a mixing or batch box and a support ramp for supporting a portable mixer. The batch box is stored and carried with the transporter as it is carrying the portable mixer to a construction site. At the site the portable mixer is loaded by the batch box and then driven to the pouring site. The mixer has a power takeoff and when positioned on the transporter automatically provides power to raise and lower the batch box.

  • Patent number: 4084654
Abstract: A drive train is provided with a planetary gear system including sun, planet, and internal ring gears, side plates abut the gears with the side plates being provided with oil passages aligned with teeth of the gears. The oil passages are spaced around the periphery of the gears out of alignment with a meshing point between gears. The gears are housed in an inner housing which is substantially completely filled with oil delivered from a reservoir by gravity flow. The gears advantageously lie in a single plane for ease of sealing and manufacture. Oil passing between the gears serves to cool the gears and is squeezed between meshing teeth to provide a hydraulic resistance and thus partially lock the gears.

  • Patent number: 4062312
Abstract: An improved method for deforming and coating a metallic surface. A portion at least of the metallic surface is operated upon by the forming surface of a forming machine, the forming surface being lubricated with certain homologs of lactic acid of the C.sub.N H.sub.2N+1 series. A water-borne coating is then applied to the metallic surface, including the deformed portion thereof, with substantially no interference from the lubricant.

  • Patent number: 4038074
Abstract: A nickel-chromium based alloy comprised of nickel, chromium, molybdenum, cobalt, silicon and boron to which tin and indium is added as essential alloying elements to provide markedly improved fluidity, castability, workability and adhesion to porcelain with lighter oxide filed without impairing the strength and resistance of the alloy to deformation. The combination of properties makes the alloy particularly useful as a dental alloy for making bridges, crowns and inlays and for casting jewelry.

  • Patent number: 4012878
Abstract: A unitary protective wall member guard such as for a corner consisting of an underlying layer conforming to the wall member and a second overlying layer spaced from said first layer there across for a substantial extent thereof and said layers having common side edge portions, said second layer being in spaced relation to said wall member, being yieldingly resistant to impact, saving the underlying corner member from the direct effect of the impact and distributing the impact throughout the extent of itself.

  • Patent number: 3991353
Abstract: This disclosure deals with a motor technique for enabling the running at speeds higher than 3600 r.p.m., for 60 c.p.s. excitation, without the previously required commutators, brushes, gear boxes or frequency changers, through novel sequence switching of different selected portions of three-phase power, controlled to cause multiple magnetic pole energization at different times from different power phases in order to produce successive phase-displaced resultant waveforms that are substantially sinusoidal but of a multiple of 60 c.p.s.

  • Patent number: 3934868
Abstract: Pneumatic means are synchronously coupled to an offset machine or the like in order to positively separate and pull down the bottom sheet in a stack. Movement of the pneumatic means is synchronized with the movement of a pivotal roller that advances the pulled-down sheet onto a conveyor belt for delivery of the sheet to the utilization device. The sheet being fed is automatically aligned in a lateral direction by movable guide means that are synchronized with the feeding of the sheet. The forward edges of the lower most sheets on the stack are separated by a flow of air.
