Abstract: A microelectromechanical system (MEMS) device and method for operating the device to determine a property of a fluid. The device has a tube that extends from a base and is spaced apart from a substrate surface for vibrational movement in a plane normal to the surface. The tube defines a continuous internal passage having a fluid inlet and fluid outlet fluidically connected to the base. A cantilevered member attached to a distal portion of the tube opposite the base is configured for vibrational movement relative to the distal portion. A drive electrode operable to induce vibrational movements in the tube and cantilevered member is disposed on the substrate surface. Sensing electrodes are disposed on the substrate surface for sensing Coriolis-induced deflections of the tube when vibrated, generating outputs from which a property of a fluid flowing through the tube can be determined.

Abstract: A computer-based menu management system and method creates a record for each of the menu options in a main menu of an electronic device, creates a sub-record for each of sub-menu options in a low hierarchy of each of the menu options, and assigns initial values to parameters of each record and each sub-record. The system and method further adds a predetermined value to each of the parameters of each record or each sub-record, in response to each visit to a corresponding menu option or a corresponding sub-menu option. In addition, the system and method totals current values of the parameters, and sorts the menu options and sub-menu options of each of the menu options according to the current values of the parameters of each record and each sub-record in a predetermined sorting period.
Abstract: A system and method for backing up a phonebook in an electronic device creates a backup file, copies data in the phonebook to the backup file, and sets an identification for the backup file. The system and method further attaches the backup file to an multimedia service (MMS) message, adds the identification to a title of the MMS message, and sends the MMS message attached with the backup file to a target electronic devices. The target electronic devices determines if a title of any received MMS message contains the identification of the backup file, detaches the backup file from the MMS message and copies data in the backup file to a phonebook of the target electronic devices, in response to a determination that the received MMS message contains the identification of the backup file.
Abstract: An intermediate device for data transmission includes an interface and a wireless module, the interface establishing a local connection with an electronic device and the wireless module establishing a remote connection with a server for the electronic device. Different network parameter values are adopted for the local connection and the remote connection. A method for data transmission is also provided.
Abstract: An expandable tubular includes a plurality of leaves formed from sheet material that have curved surfaces. The leaves extend around a portion or fully around the diameter of the tubular structure. Some of the adjacent leaves of the tubular are coupled together. The tubular is compressed to a smaller diameter so that it can be inserted through previously deployed tubular assemblies. Once the tubular is properly positioned, it is deployed and coupled or not coupled to a previously deployed tubular assembly. The inventive tubular is useful for all types of wells and boreholes.

Abstract: A sensing system, sensing method, and method of producing a sensing system capable of providing a cumulative measurement capability, such as in the form of a RFID tag capable of measuring cumulative heat and humidity for continuous monitoring of storage and shipping conditions of various goods. The system includes integrated circuitry and a plurality of sensing elements, preferably having cantilevered bimorph beams. Each sensing element is responsive to an environmental condition so as to deflect toward and away from open contacts in response to changes in the environmental condition. Each sensing element produces a digital output when it contacts and closes its open contacts. The integrated circuitry interfaces with the sensing elements so that the digital outputs of the sensing elements are processed to generate a system output of the sensing system.
Abstract: A system for a slide-out platform in a rack mount case includes a slide-out platform configured to secure electronic equipment. The platform is slideably attached to the rack mount case using a first rail and a second rail. The first and second rail have a series of indexing holes in order to allow a dagger pin to secure the platform in place.
Abstract: A casing 10 of a pump has first and second casing elements 20, 30. Each of the casing elements has a mating face and these mating faces are sealingly joined. An interior of the first casing element defines a portion of a chamber 50 in which the impeller is mounted. A first interior portion of the second casing element defines the remaining portion of the impeller chamber, and a second interior portion defines a diffusion chamber 60 that is in fluid communication with the impeller chamber. Fluid entering the casing at a fluid inlet 34 passes into the impeller chamber, where velocity is imparted to the fluid. The velocity-enhanced fluid passes axially into the diffusion chamber, which has an expanding cross-sectional area along its length, to convert the velocity into pressure head, which is achieved increasing by at least one of: the radially-inward width and the axial height.
Abstract: The present invention provides for primer extension reactions, including polymerase chain reactions, in which a polymerase having 3?-5? exonuclease activity edits a primer that is not fully complementary thereby allowing for amplification and detection of target nucleic acids that may have variability in their sequences.

The first circuit includes a first resistor and a first capacitor. The second circuit includes a second resistor and a second capacitor. The AND gate includes a first input, a second input and an output. The first capacitor includes an input coupled to a power source via the first resistor, and an output grounded. The second capacitor includes an input coupled to the control signal input and an output grounded. The first input of the AND gate is coupled to the input of the first capacitor, the second input coupled to the input of the second capacitor, and the output configured for coupling to a integrated circuit to reset.
Abstract: Systems and methods provide high and low resolution cameras. For example, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a camera system provides wide and narrow fields of view simultaneously. An operator may select different views to be provided by the camera system (e.g., a wide field of view, a narrow field of view, or the combination of the wide and narrow field of views).

Abstract: One aspect of the invention is directed to a balloon catheter with a multilayered polymeric sleeve at the rapid exchange intermediate section, having an outer layer formed of a polymer with a relatively low processing temperature (i.e., melting temperature for semi-crystalline polymers or glass transition temperature for amorphous polymers), and having an inner layer.
Abstract: An igniter assembly that includes a housing, a secondary explosive input charge, a pyrotechnic output charge and a barrier system that is disposed between the input charge and the pyrotechnic output charge. The barrier system shields the pyrotechnic output charge from energy released by the input charge to prevent the output charge from being cooked-off or initiated unless the input charge is detonated.

Abstract: The pedicle screw system may be used for fixation of spinal segments and may be advantageous when minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques are employed. The pedicle screw system includes a tulip assembly comprising of a tulip body, a inner member, and an expansion member. Installation of the pedicle screw system into pedicles of the spine, for example, includes inserting the pedicle screw into a portion of the spine and then coupling the tulip assembly to the pedicle screw. The tulip assembly may be locked onto the pedicle screw before a distraction rod is placed in the tulip assembly. After the rod is placed in the tulip assembly, the tulip body and the inner member can be rotated relative to one another to lock the rod into the tulip assembly. In addition, the relative rotation may also provide additional locking of the tulip assembly to the pedicle screw.
