  • Patent number: 10014977
Abstract: A system and method for transmitting data over a channel, in which the data are categorized in at least two different categories. For example, the data are categorized according to the effect on perceived degradation on the data when error mitigation is performed on the data. Corrupted data of the first category are replaced using a first replacement method, such as retransmission and forward error correction. The corrupted data of the second category are replaced using a second replacement method different from the first replacement method, e.g., error mitigation or interpolation.

  • Publication number: 20180176209
Abstract: Concepts and technologies disclosed herein are directed to vehicle-to-everything (“V2X”) certificate management. According to one aspect of the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, a system can receive a CRL from a security credential management (“SCM”) system. The CRL can identify one or more certificates that have been determined to be invalid, such as when the certificate(s) has expired. The certificate(s) can be utilized by a vehicle for secure communications, including vehicle-to-vehicle (“V2V”) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (“V2I”) (collectively V2X). The system can format the CRL as a cell broadcast message. The system can then create a cell broadcast request directed to a cell broadcast center (“CBC”). The cell broadcast request can include the CRL formatted as the cell broadcast message. The system can send the cell broadcast request to the CBC to instruct the CBC to broadcast the CRL as the cell broadcast message.

  • Publication number: 20180159762
Abstract: Switches within a telecommunications network exchange so-called available bandwidth messages, each of which advertises how much bandwidth remains unassigned on a respective link. The network is of a type in which circuits are provisioned with various predefined numbers of time slots (equivalent to bandwidth). The sending of an available bandwidth message for a given link is triggered by a change in the number of time slots available on that link if that change results in a change in the number of circuit bandwidths that can be accommodated by that link for a newly provisioned circuit.

  • Patent number: 9965476
Abstract: A method of indexing multimedia content by creating database records that include location data is disclosed. Devices that generate multimedia content also generate location data corresponding to the location of the device when the content is generated. The location data includes geographical coordinates such as latitude and longitude as well as orientation and tilt. Other data may be recorded such as date and time of day, and light exposure. The content and location data are communicated to a Content Index Processor (CIP) that creates a database record from the location data and determines classifications for the database record that can be used by a person that is searching for particular multimedia content.

  • Publication number: 20180123640
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for reducing outbound interference in a broadband powerline communication system. Data is modulated on first and second carrier frequencies and is transmitted via respective first and second lines of the powerline system. A characteristic of at least one of the carrier signals (e.g., phase or amplitude) is adjusted in order to improve the electrical balance of the lines of the transmission system. This improvement in electrical balance reduces the radiated interference of the powerline system. Also disclosed is the use of a line balancing element on or more lines of the powerline system for altering the characteristics of at least one of the power lines in order to compensate for a known imbalance of the transmission system.

  • Patent number: 9922430
Abstract: Optimal resilience to errors in packetized streaming 3-D wireframe animation is achieved by partitioning the stream into layers and applying unequal error correction coding to each layer independently to maintain the same overall bitrate. The unequal error protection scheme for each of the layers combined with error concealment at the receiver achieves graceful degradation of streamed animation at higher packet loss rates than approaches that do not account for subjective parameters such as visual smoothness.

  • Patent number: 9913224
Abstract: An adaptive SINR control process is triggered based on various quality measures associated with the received signal in a mobile device or on a geographic region in which a base station and an interferer are located. As part of the adaptive SINR control process, the mobile device reduces the signal level of the received signal, which reduces both the signal strength of the desired signal and the interfering signal. If the control process is triggered on the mobile device side, after detecting the presence of interference, the mobile device sends a request that the base station increase its transmit power of the desired signal to improve the receiving SINR in the mobile device. Alternatively, the mobile device may receive information from the base station causing the mobile device to reduce the signal level of the received signal based on quality indicators sent by the mobile device to the base station or based on geographic location of the base station.

  • Patent number: 9871739
Abstract: An in-band signaling model media control (MC) terminal for an HPNA network includes a frame classification entity (FCE) and a frame scheduling entity (FSE) and provides end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) by passing the QoS requirements from higher layers to the lower layers of the HPNA network. The FCE is located at an LLC sublayer of the MC terminal, and receives a data frame from a higher layer of the MC terminal that is part of a QoS stream. The FCE classifies the received data frame for a MAC sublayer of the MC terminal based on QoS information contained in the received data frame, and associates the classified data frame with a QoS stream queue corresponding to a classification of the data frame. The FSE is located at the MAC sublayer of the MC terminal, and schedules transmission of the data frame to a destination for the data frame based on a QoS requirement associated with the QoS stream.

  • Patent number: 9866845
Abstract: A method of content adaptive encoding video comprising segmenting video content into segments based on predefined classifications or models. Based on the segment classifications, each segment is encoded with a different encoder chosen from a plurality of encoders. Each encoder is associated with a model. The chosen encoder is particularly suited to encoding the unique subject matter of the segment. The coded bit-stream for each segment includes information regarding which encoder was used to encode that segment. A matching decoder of a plurality of decoders is chosen using the information in the coded bitstream to decode each segment using a decoder suited for the classification or model of the segment. If scenes exist which do not fall in a predefined classification, or where classification is more difficult based on the scene content, these scenes are segmented, coded and decoded using a generic coder and decoder.

  • Patent number: 9854023
Abstract: A method for disseminating content over an overlay network having a plurality of routers in communication with providers and consumers of content is disclosed. A router in the overlay network receives a content descriptor corresponding to a query for content from a node, and generates a subscriber interface list based on the query for the content. The subscriber interface list is transmitted to a plurality of subsequent routers in the overlay network, wherein a content identified by the subsequent routers that correspond to the query will be routed to the router based on the subscriber interface list. The router receives first and second documents corresponding to the query for the content from the node. If the second document is the duplicate, the router deletes the second document and transmits the first document to the node or if not the router transmits both the first and second documents to the node.

  • Publication number: 20170366257
Abstract: An improved technique for acoustic sensing involves, in one embodiment, launching into a medium, a plurality of groups of pulse-modulated electromagnetic-waves. The frequency of electromagnetic waves in a pulse within a group differs from the frequency of the electromagnetic waves in another pulse within the group. The energy scattered by the medium is detected and, in one embodiment, may be used to determine a characteristic of the environment of the medium. For example, if the medium is a buried optical fiber into which light pulses have been launched in accordance with the invention, the presence of acoustic waves within the region of the buried fiber can be detected.
