  • Patent number: 7956722
Abstract: A system and method for providing user-selected information to a paging-capable device. An enhanced paging system responsive to information sources and a selection device transmits information to a paging-capable device. The enhanced paging system comprises a storing means, a selecting means, a storage device, and a transmitter. Such a system can provide user-selected information to a paging-capable device, allowing the user to control what information will be sent and when the information will be sent. Intelligent-agent software can automatically search for and store information that would be of interest to the user and can alert the user that more detailed information is available. It can also send critical information to the user without user request.

  • Patent number: 7907716
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for facilitating enhanced call awareness. A system incorporating teachings of the present disclosure may include an interface that receives a signal associated with a call to a telephone number. A call information engine may be coupled to the interface and may recognize that a party to the call subscribes to an enhanced call activity service. In some cases, the party may be a called party or a calling party, and the activity may include an incoming call to the telephone number, an outgoing call, a missed call, or a waiting voicemail message. A memory may maintain a data network address for the party, and a messaging engine may initiate sending of a message containing call information to the data network address. The message may be sent in response to a trigger signal output by a notification engine without consideration for whether or not a telephone line associated with the telephone number is busy.

  • Patent number: 7529231
Abstract: A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call from a first provider to a destination telephone number served by a second provider comprises sending a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) INVITE message from an originating switch to a first SIP server of the first provider. The first SIP server queries a telephone number mapping (ENUM) server of either the first, second or a third provider, and receives a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) associated with the destination telephone number. The ENUM server may be internal or external to the first provider. The first provider queries a Domain Name Service (DNS) server based on the URI, and receives an Internet Protocol (IP) address of a second SIP server of the second provider. The first SIP server and the second SIP server are used to set up a bearer path for the VoIP call between the originating switch and a destination switch.

  • Patent number: 7526073
Abstract: Wireless service providers use SMS to notify users of text messages from other wireless users using text-based communications. SMS is used in conjunction with an Interactive Voice Response system and a text-to-speech (TTS) translator to provide enhanced text messaging. Users access the SMS menu on their wireless phone. Instead of typing a text message on the wireless phone keypad, users select an IVR option that connects to the wireless service provider's IVR system. After entering or speaking the telephone number (name or nickname) for the “To:” field, the user speaks the message to be sent via SMS. The IVR reads back the spoken message for user confirmation. Once confirmed, the message is translated to text using a Text-to-Speech translator, or a speech recognition dictation feature, and forwarded to the SMS Messaging Gateway.

  • Patent number: 7519657
Abstract: Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for providing communications services. One method receives a first data stream at a computer, and the first data stream includes packets of data packetized according to a packet protocol. The first data stream is segmented into segments according to a set of subscriber-specified rules stored in memory. A subscriber to a subscription service specifies the set of subscriber-specified rules, and the set of subscriber-specified rules specifies how electronic data is formatted for the subscriber. At least one segment is dispersed via a network for a subsequent processing service. A result of the processing service is received. A second data stream is assembled, and the second data stream includes at least one of i) the result of the processing service and ii) another segment. The second data stream is then communicated via the network.

  • Patent number: 7433412
Abstract: A digital subscriber line (DSL) circuit is disclosed and includes at least one transformer exciting network (TEN) adapted to supply a low-impedance path to ground in response to an excitation current. The excitation current has a non-DSL frequency, and the low-impedance path to ground allows the excitation current to flow through a DSL induction neutralizing transformer (INT). The DSL INT is electrically coupled to the at least one TEN. The DSL INT is adapted to add longitudinal inductance to a telecommunication line in response to the excitation current, wherein the longitudinal inductance suppresses induced harmonic currents.
