Abstract: A method of detecting misrouted inter-office transport facility routes in a telecommunications system is disclosed. The method includes receiving a plurality of provisioning orders corresponding to a plurality of newly requested inter-office facility routes to be added to the telecommunications system, and comparing the plurality of newly requested inter-office facility routes to a plurality of preferred routes that have been stored in a preferred routes database to identify a first set of routes that match the preferred routes, a second set of misrouted routes where a preferred route has been defined and previously stored, but where the newly requested route does not match the preferred route, and a third set of unmatched routes where a preferred route has not been previously stored in the preferred routes database.

Abstract: A method for performing electronic transactions, comprising receiving a long-term certificate, authenticating a user associated with the long-term certificate, and then sending a short-term certificate to the authenticated user. In addition, risk associated with the user can be evaluated, and this risk information, as well as other information, can be included in the short-term certificate.
Abstract: A method of automatically generating a computer based layout of an optical communication network is provided. First, communications traffic demand forecast data for an optical communication network is received. Network data corresponding to a deployed optical communication network is also received. Thereafter, a network plan can be automatically generated. The network plan corresponds to a modified network that may be deployed. Also, the network plan can be derived from the network data. Further, the network plan can be constructed in response to the performance of a grooming operation that includes a first level of grooming at an optical level of the modified network and a second level of grooming at an electrical level of the modified network.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for analyzing, deconstructing, reconstructing, and repurposing rhetorical content. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a content management system (400) having a database (404), and a controller (402) for managing the database. The controller can be programmed to retrieve (702) at least one of a first plurality of records, each including content, retrieve (706) rhetorical libraries, identify (714) patterns between the rhetorical libraries and the content of each record, and deconstruct (718) the content into one or more rhetorical topics according to the patterns identified. Additional embodiments are disclosed for analyzing, deconstructing, reconstructing, and repurposing content.

Abstract: A data structure, which identifies a party of a telecommunication network and a telecommunication feature unavailable to the party, is stored in a database. After storing the data structure, availability data is inputted. The availability data indicates an availability of the telecommunication feature to a portion of the telecommunication network which serves the party. The data structure and the availability data are processed to determine that the telecommunication feature has become available to the party.

Abstract: A method for designing a communication network is provided. First, network demand data is gathered. Network architecture data is also gathered. Based in part on the network demand data and the network architecture data, a network plan is automatically generated.
Abstract: A system and method is described for determining a condition of a communication line, such as the absence of a filter device on a digital subscriber line (DSL). A first signal characterized by a high upstream power is activated over the line, and a first set of parameters associated with the communication line is obtained. A second signal characterized by a low upstream power is activated, and a second set of parameters associated with the communication line is obtained. Comparison of first and second sets of parameters is indicative of a condition of the connection and presences or absence of a DSL filter on the communication line.

Abstract: An audio alert system, device, and method includes an audio alert created by a user and programmed into a device, such as a wireless telephone. A user stores in the device a data structure relating an audio alert triggering event to the audio alert. When the device detects an occurrence of the particular audio alert triggering event, the device emits the audio alert related to the triggering event. As such, users are able to customize audio alerts that are easily recognizable and that are associated with a particular event, or signal. Audio alerts can be programmed using different devices and in various formats and can be transmitted to other devices. An audio alert triggering event can modulate an audio alert according to an external variable.
Abstract: Email subscribers are notified of the receipt of new email messages when they are not at their computers via voice or page. An email notification server polls the email server corresponding to the subscriber's email account for the presence of new email messages. New email messages are obtained. Header information is extracted. If new email notification is by voicemail, the extracted header information is converted from text to voice. A voicemail message containing the extracted header information is saved on the voicemail system corresponding to the subscriber for whom the email message was intended. The email notification server can also send a page to notify the subscriber of the presence of new email.
Abstract: Seamless wireless mobility is described. In one embodiment, a mobility manager can query a subscriber catalog for a current registration status of a handset. The mobility manager can then use the registration status to send a first signal to the handset over either a wireless network or an Internet protocol-based network.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for sentence planning (120) in a task classification system that interacts with a user. The method may include recognizing symbols in the user's input communication and determining whether the user's input communication can be understood. If the user's communication can be understood, understanding data may be generated (220). The method may further include generating communicative goals (3010) based on the recognized symbols and understanding data. The generated communicative goals (3010) may be related to information needed to be obtained form the user. The method may also include automatically planning one or more sentences (3020) based on the generated communicative goals and outputting at least one of the sentence plans to the user (3080).

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer program products are provided for testing a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication system. A VoIP test phone call is generated through an Internet communication link to a VoIP service provider for a called telephone number. Success of the VoIP test phone call is determined. The success of the VoIP test phone call may be determined based on whether it is established with communication equipment at the called telephone number within a threshold time, based on whether it is established within a threshold number of attempts, and/or based on a measured quality of service in the VoIP test phone call when it is established. Further VoIP test phone calls to test the VoIP communication system can be scheduled.
Abstract: Quality of Service (QoS) in a communication network is managed. A service provider requests a level of QoS for communication in the communication network using a QoS request. The requested level of QoS may be allocated to the service provider based on the QoS request. The service provider may make the QoS request on its own initiative and/or in response to a request from an application that is hosted by the service provider. A QoS level may then be allocated to the service provider and/or to particular applications that are hosted by the service provider.

Abstract: A system and method for non-speech input or keypad-aided word and spelling recognition is disclosed. The method comprises performing spelling recognition via automatic speech recognition (ASR) on received speech from a user, the ASR being performed using a statistical letter model trained on domain data and producing a letter lattice RLN. If an ASR confidence is below a predetermined level, then the method comprises receiving non-speech input from the user, generating a keypad constraint grammar K and generating a letter string based on a composition of finite state transducers RLN and K. Other variations of the invention include recognizing input by first receiving non-speech input, dynamically generating an unweighted grammar, generating a weighted grammar using domain data, and then performing speech, and thus spelling, recognition on input speech using the weighted grammar.
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing interoperability of systems are provided. One embodiment may be seen as instantiating a server in a container having instances of Enterprise Java™ Beans (EJB), and accessing the EJB through the local interface of the EJB. Since the EJB is accessed from within the container, the need for translation of messaging protocols at a bridge is removed. The server components are provided access to the EJB logic through the local interface of the EJB.
