Abstract: A telephone call is billed that originates in a primary carrier telecommunications network and terminates in a secondary telecommunications carrier network. The call is billed by generating multiple billing records in response to the telephone call, at least one billing record comprising a toll free number administered by the secondary carrier. It is determined whether the toll free number is administered by the secondary carrier; and the billing record including the toll free number administered by the secondary carrier is discarded when it is determined that the toll free number is administered by the secondary carrier. Thus, the primary carrier only bills for a portion of the call that was connected from the caller to the termination point of the primary carrier network.

Abstract: A method and system for error prevention and recovery of voice activated navigation through a menu having plural nodes provides situation dependent utterance verification by relating confirmation to utterance determination confidence levels. In one embodiment, a high confidence level results in implicit confirmation, a medium confidence level results in explicit confirmation and a low confidence level results in a concise interrogative prompt of a single word that requests the user to repeat the utterance. In situations where voice recognition is difficult, dual modality with DTMF navigation is provided as an option for menu selections.

Abstract: An automatic speech recognition (ASR) system and method is provided for controlling the recognition of speech utterances generated by an end user operating a communications device. The ASR system and method can be used with a communications device that is used in a communications network. The ASR system can be used for ASR of speech utterances input into a mobile device, to perform compensating techniques using at least one characteristic and for updating an ASR speech recognizer associated with the ASR system by determined and using a background noise value and a distortion value that is based on the features of the mobile device. The ASR system can be used to augment a limited data input capability of a mobile device, for example, caused by limited input devices physically located on the mobile device.

Text messages can be sent and received via the text window.
Abstract: Temporary increased broadband bandwidth services for high speed access and download of Internet websites are provided to end user DSL subscribers by a system and method to increase speed of accessing certain Internet websites to incentivize the end user DSL subscribers to purchase higher speed broadband services and to incentivize content providers to pay for the temporary increased broadband services. The speed category of a customer premises equipment turbo modem is controlled by either a wired or wireless serving center computer processor, based on either the wired or wireless serving center computer processor determining whether to download Internet and video content at a predetermined selected speed category.
Abstract: Included are embodiments for determining data for at least one geographic zone. At least one embodiment of a method includes determining at least one geographic zone for monitoring and receiving data related to at least one contact of a user entering the at least one geographic zone. Some embodiments include providing an indication, to the user, that the at least one contact of the user is currently located in the determined geographic zone.
Abstract: A system, a method, and a machine-readable medium are provided. A group of linear rules and associated weights are provided as a result of machine learning. Each one of the group of linear rules is partitioned into a respective one of a group of types of rules. A respective transducer for each of the linear rules is compiled. A combined finite state transducer is created from a union of the respective transducers compiled from the linear rules.
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device having a controller to transmit to a media server a request for distribution of media content to one or more targeted recipients according to a user profile associated with the communication device that is stored in the media server. The format of the media content can be adjusted by the media server based at least in part on the user profile. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a server having a controller to monitor for a tutorial request from a set top box coupled to a monitor display where the tutorial request is associated with use of the set top box, determine a tutorial type based on the tutorial request, and establish real time communication using a first webcam coupled to the set top box and a second webcam coupled to a communication device at a support center when the tutorial type is a video conference. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a computing device having a controller adapted to monitor one or more activities taking place at a media content processor, and present an iconic symbol in a graphical user interface window adjusted according to the one or more activities being monitored. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract: A method for monitoring video delivery performance at an IPTV receiver is disclosed and can include recording video delivery performance data in a memory buffer at the IPTV receiver. Further, the method can include displaying a problem report window at a display device coupled to the IPTV receiver when a problem button is pressed. The trouble report window is configured to allow real-time reporting of trouble from a user.
Abstract: A system and method for generating a synthetic text-to-speech TTS voice are disclosed. A user is presented with at least one TTS voice and at least one voice characteristic. A new synthetic TTS voice is generated by blending a plurality of existing TTS voices according to the selected voice characteristics. The blending of voices involves interpolating segmented parameters of each TTS voice. Segmented parameters may be, for example, prosodic characteristics of the speech such as pitch, volume, phone durations, accents, stress, mis-pronunciations and emotion.

Abstract: An induction neutralizing transformer is provided. The induction neutralizing transformer includes a core and a coil wrapped around the core. The coil has a length between approximately 100 feet and approximately 200 feet and includes a plurality of twisted wire pairs. The induction neutralizing transformer does not include a screen or shield to prevent crosstalk interference.
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a web server having a controller adapted to manage an archive of media content for a subscriber, and record a transaction description and a corresponding tracking identifier for a transaction that manipulates the archive. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Abstract: A method and system for viewing an attachment to an electronic communication transmitted in an electronic messaging system is disclosed in which the system receives a communication; examines the content of the communication; sends an attachment contained in the communication to an alternate viewing site; and presents the content of the attachment contained in the communication at the alternate viewing site in a universally-viewable format. An alternative embodiment further includes prompting the receiver of the communication for verification of a previously assigned personal identification number.
Abstract: A method of verifying a blackout event is disclosed that includes receiving blackout event data from an event log database of a video distribution platform at a subscriber event transmission interface (SETI) communicating with an electronic data warehouse (EDW) system. The method also includes creating at least one EDW load-ready file that includes at least a portion of the blackout event data.
