Abstract: Concepts and technologies disclosed herein are directed to session continuity between software-defined network (“SDN”) controlled and non-SDN controlled wireless networks. In one embodiment, an SDN controller can determine that a handover of a user equipment (“UE”) from a base station operating under control of the SDN-controlled network to a further base station operating under control of a non-SDN-controlled network has occurred. The SDN controller can establish over an interface between the SDN controller and a packet gateway (“P-GW”), a tunnel through which to exchange handover data associated with the handover and a session IP address for a session in which the UE is involved. The SDN controller can provide, over the interface and through the tunnel, the handover data and the session IP address to the P-GW.

Abstract: Enabling a changing of a state of a device based on a hierarchical class of the device is disclosed. Non-macro radio access network (RAN) devices can be comprised in a network connected to a macro RAN device via a gateway RAN device. The gateway RAN device can be connected to a field RAN device via an intermediate RAN device. A state of a field RAN device can be altered based on a criterion. In an embodiment the criterion can be use of the hierarchical class of the RAN device, e.g., a field class RAN device, by an active or idle UE. In an embodiment the criterion can be use, by an active or idle UE, of another RAN device that is a logical neighbor to the field RAN device. Altering the state can result in a power savings or improved interference characteristics of the network.

Abstract: A system for decrypts encrypted Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) data from packet traces without using private keys or a proxy. Decryption of encrypted SSL data is accomplished by intercepting a session key associated with a communication session transmitted from a user device to a server during handshaking between the user device and the server. The session key is then used to decrypt packet level traces of the communication session. The decrypted packet level traces are then used to measure traffic.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for providing a notification of a usage of a medical injector are disclosed. For example, the method determines location information of the medical injector. The method then detects the usage of the medical injector, and records a time of the usage of the medical injector. The method then sends the notification comprising the time at which the usage of the medical injector is detected and the location information of the medical injector.
Abstract: Data is routed in a mesh network of devices that can communicate wirelessly through a plurality of technologies. One or more of such devices receive broadcast message(s) from a destination device intended to receive the data, and generate a first radio link quality metric (RLQM) value based on the broadcast message(s). A source device originates and delivers a quantum of data with an embedded first RLQM value. A set of intermediate devices relays the quantum of data if a forwarding criterion is fulfilled; the forwarding criterion is based in part on the first RLQM value and a second RLQM value generated by an intermediate device in the set of intermediate devices based on the broadcast message(s). The intermediate device exploits an optical interface to transmit the quantum of data. The destination device broadcasts an acknowledgement signal in response to receiving intended data.

Abstract: Communication networks go through frequent upgrades, whereby access point (AP) devices that serve network client devices are brought offline to effectuate the upgrade. Concurrently upgrading too many AP devices within a given geographic area can lead to coverage holes where no service is available, congestion where data cannot be sufficiently communicated, or other service degradation. On the other hand, upgrading too few AP devices within the area can result in a network-wide upgrade time that is too great. An architecture is presented that can efficiently generate a schedule for upgrading AP devices of a communication network.

Abstract: Dynamically switching between broadcast and unicast services for service continuity between wireless networks is presented herein. A system can comprise a detection component configured to determine that a mobile device is receiving a broadcast transmission of broadcast data from a broadcast enabled access point device configured to send, via a broadcast service wireless coverage area, the broadcast data to multiple devices via a point-to-multipoint communication protocol. Further, the detection component can detect a movement of the mobile device from the broadcast service wireless coverage area to a unicast service wireless coverage area. A transfer component can initiate, in response to the detection, a unicast transmission of the broadcast data from a unicast enabled access point device to the mobile device—the unicast enabled access point device configured to send, via the unicast service wireless coverage area, the broadcast data to a single device via a point-to-point communication protocol.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for using diversity to provide redundancy of virtual machines. A server computer that executes an orchestrator application can receive a virtual machine instantiation request. The server computer can analyze the request to determine needs associated with a virtual machine (including a redundancy requirement). The server computer can obtain resource availability data that indicates availability of resources and includes diversity data used to provide diversity-based redundancy of the virtual machine. The server computer can identify a pool of resources and identify, among the pool, two or more resources. The two or more resources can include a most diverse group of resources of the pool of resources and can be identified based upon the diversity data. The server computer can trigger instantiation of the virtual machine and a copy of the virtual machine on the resources.
