  • Patent number: 10585492
Abstract: A method includes sensing entities in first and second domains. If a first stimulus is present and an entity is in the first domain, the entity is transferred from first to second domain via a bridge. If a second stimulus is present and an entity is in the second domain, the entity is transferred from second first domain via the bridge. At least some of the first domain is outputted. An apparatus includes a processor that defines first and second domains and a bridge that enables transfer of entities between domains, an entity identifier that identifies entities in the domains, a stimulus identifier that identifies stimuli, and a display that outputs at least some of the first domain. The processor transfers entities from first to second domain responsive to a first stimulus, and transfers entities from second to first domain responsive to a second stimulus.

  • Patent number: 10515263
Abstract: Comprehensive 2D learning images are collected for learning subjects. Standardized 2D gallery images of many gallery subjects are collected, one per gallery subject. A 2D query image of a query subject is collected, of arbitrary viewing aspect, illumination, etc. 3D learning models, 3D gallery models, and a 3D query model are determined from the learning, gallery, and query images. A transform is determined for the selected learning model and each gallery model that yields or approximates the query image. The transform is at least partly 3D, such as 3D illumination transfer or 3D orientation alignment. The transform is applied to each gallery model so that the transformed gallery models more closely resemble the query model. 2D transformed gallery images are produced from the transformed gallery models, and are compared against the 2D query image to identify whether the query subject is also any of the gallery subjects.

  • Patent number: 10444828
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods of operating the same are described. An apparatus including a display, an input device, and a processing device coupled to the display and the input device. The processing device may send an output to the display. The output may include a graphical object associated with a first step of a user-implemented procedure. The processing device may receive an input from the input device. The input may indicate a progress on an execution of the first step by an operator. The processing device may determine whether the input indicates that the operator has completed the first step. The processing device may determine whether the first step is a final step in the user-implemented procedure. The processing device may identify a second step in the user-implemented procedure when the input indicates that the operator has completed the first step and the first step is not a final step.

  • Patent number: 10423296
Abstract: In the method, a processor generates a three dimensional interface with at least one virtual object, defines a stimulus of the interface, and defines a response to the stimulus. The stimulus is an approach to the virtual object with a finger or other end-effector to within a threshold of the virtual object. When the stimulus is sensed, the response is executed. Stimuli may include touch, click, double click, peg, scale, and swipe gestures. The apparatus includes a processor that generates a three dimensional interface with at least one virtual object, and defines a stimulus for the virtual object and a response to the stimulus. A display outputs the interface and object. A camera or other sensor detects the stimulus, e.g. a gesture with a finger or other end-effector, whereupon the processor executes the response. The apparatus may be part of a head mounted display.

  • Patent number: 10401966
Abstract: A free space input standard is instantiated on a processor. Free space input is sensed and communicated to the processor. If the free space input satisfies the free space input standard, a touch screen input response is invoked in an operating system. The free space input may be sensed using continuous implicit, discrete implicit, active explicit, or passive explicit approaches. The touch screen input response may be invoked through communicating virtual touch screen input, a virtual input event, or a virtual command to or within the operating system. In this manner free space gestures may control existing touch screen interfaces and devices, without modifying those interfaces and devices directly to accept free space gestures.

  • Patent number: 10368059
Abstract: A target is outputted to an ideal position in 3D space. A viewer indicates the apparent position of the target, and the indication is sensed. An offset between the ideal and apparent positions is determined, and an adjustment determined from the offset such that the apparent position of the ideal position with the adjustment matches the ideal position without the adjustment. The adjustment is made to the first entity and/or a second entity, such that the entities appear to the viewer in the ideal position. The indication may be monocular with a separate indication for each eye, or binocular with a single viewer indication for both eyes. The indication also may serve as communication, such as a PIN input, so that calibration is transparent to the viewer. The method may be continuous, intermittent, or otherwise ongoing over time.

  • Patent number: 10356179
Abstract: Switching among sensor feeds for optimum performance includes disposing a processor in communication with sensors, each said sensor providing a primary data stream. A data stream standard is established in the processor. The primary data streams are communicated from the sensors to the processor, and are compared against the data stream in the processor. A secondary data stream is selected from among the primary data streams or synthesized from one or more of the primary data streams, based on which primary data stream(s) most closely match the data stream standard. The secondary data stream is communicated to a data stream recipient. The data stream recipient may identify input in the secondary data stream, and an input executor may execute control commands corresponding to the input so as to control a device or system.

  • Patent number: 10318361
Abstract: Methods for providing simultaneous access to a hardware data stream to multiple applications are disclosed. The first application to access a hardware device is responsible for providing and publishing an application programming interface (API) that provides access to the hardware device's data stream, which other applications can then call to gain access to the data stream. In some examples, the first application may be a server process or daemon dedicated to managing the hardware device data stream and publishing the API. In some further examples, the first application may instead may carry out user functionality unrelated to managing the hardware device.

  • Patent number: 10318100
Abstract: A user, a manipulator such as a hand, and at least one entity such as a virtual or augmented reality object are in an interface such as a 3D environmental interface. The manipulation distance is the distance between a reference feature of the user and a manipulation feature of the manipulator. The entity distance is the distance between the reference feature and an entity feature of the entity. When the manipulation distance becomes greater than the entity distance, the entity is caused to fade, disappear, move out of the way, shrink, etc. so as to be less of an obstruction to the user's field of view, for example to avoid obstructing more distant entities. Other factors than the manipulation distance and entity distance may be considered in determining whether to reduce the obstructivity of the entity, and exceptions to the obstruction relation may be considered.

  • Patent number: 10303255
Abstract: A single pose is used in multiple postures to deliver at least a minimal core set of free space gestures for navigating within an interface, so as to be intuitive to users, easily remembered, straightforward for developers, and clearly defined for processing. A “thumb-extended” pose with fingers together and clenched and thumb extended and raised is oriented in four cardinal directions so as to manifest four distinct postures: right, left, up, and down. Thumb-right and thumb left invoke scrolling forward and scrolling back, respectively, and thumb-up and thumb-down invoke yes and no respectively.
