In some embodiments, the preparations can include carbamide peroxide as a first component and, as a second component, at least one peppermint oil terpene, peppermint oil, or a compound isolated or derived from peppermint oil.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the present invention provide pharmaceutical formulations, for treating atherosclerosis in a mammal, including a bile acid and/or a terpene atherosclerotic plaque emulsifier. Some embodiments provide methods for administering such pharmaceutical formulations. In some embodiments, pharmaceutical formulations include a combination of a bile acid and a terpene in amounts effective to result in plaque regression, and the amount of each individual emulsifier in the combination can be lower than an amount that is effective to result in plaque regression when the emulsifier is administered alone. Abstract: A dermatological topical formulation such as a cream, ointment, or lotion containing an elastogenesis inducer and a systemic absorption retardant is described. Such a formulation achieves high local tissue concentration of the elastogenesis inducer in the vicinity of the application site, minimizes systemic absorption of the elastogenesis inducer, and maximizes a concentration of the elastogenesis inducer in dermis, resulting in formation or restoration of elastin fibers in adult skin. The formulation can further contain a skin penetration enhancer compound.
