Patent number: 8172003Abstract: A portable device having an overload protection device for motor-operated tools has a drive motor, a drive shaft connected to the drive motor and driven in rotation by the drive motor, and an output shaft for driving a cutting tool, wherein the output shaft is arranged substantially perpendicularly to the drive shaft. A drive pinion is connected to the drive shaft. A drum is supported on the output shaft and driven in rotation by the drive pinion. A coupling is arranged between the drum and the output shaft and engages the drum. The coupling is connected to the output shaft. When the output shaft is blocked, the coupling effects an automatic decoupling between the drum and the output shaft in order to prevent overloading of the drive motor.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2004Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Atlas Copco Electric Tools GmbHInventors: Thomas Robieu, Jean-Claude Maret

Patent number: 7121774Abstract: A clamping device has a hexagon receptacle for receiving hexagon bits inserted in an axial direction of the hexagon receptacle. A radially movable locking element is provided for engaging a locking recess of an inserted hexagon bit. The locking element has a rest position and projects in the rest position radially inwardly into the hexagon receptacle. A locking sleeve surrounds the hexagon receptacle in an initial position and has a cylindrical securing wall. The securing wall radially secures the locking element in the rest position. The locking element is axially moveable within the hexagon receptacle into a receiving position in which radial deflection of the locking element is enabled.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2004Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: Atlas Copco Electric Tools GmbHInventors: Dieter Hirt, Wilhelm Geis

Patent number: 7048107Abstract: A shaft locking device for a motor-driven, hand-guided work tool spindle has a driven member fixedly connected thereto, a freewheel with locking members, a ring fixedly connected to the housing and engaged by the locking members in both rotating directions, a drive member coaxially arranged to the spindle with unlocking members cooperating with locking members releasing when the driving member is engaged, thereby releasing the driven member from the ring. Drive member cams are spatially separated from unlocking members wherein they penetrate the locking member. Driven members have catch openings such that both drive and driven members also have torque-transmitting catch surfaces for a motor-driven action of the spindle so that the catch surfaces have a larger distance from one another in a neutral position of the drive member than between the unlocking members and the locking members.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1998Date of Patent: May 23, 2006Assignee: Atlas Copco Electric Tools GmbHInventors: Wilhelm Geis, Manuela Menrath

Patent number: 7044882Abstract: A switchable gearbox of a handheld power tool has a gear having a first switching stage and a second switching stage arranged sequentially in an axial direction of the gear, wherein the gear comprises a gear arrangement movable in the axial direction of the gear between the first and second switching stages. An actuator is rotatable about an axis parallel to the axial direction of the gear. At least one shifting gate is rotatable together with the actuator wherein the shifting gate interacts with the gear arrangement for moving the gear arrangement in the axial direction. The shifting gate has a central area extending linearly and at a slant relative to a circumferential direction of the gear and end sections on each end of the central area, wherein the end sections extend parallel to the circumferential direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2004Date of Patent: May 16, 2006Assignee: Atlas Copco Electric Tools GmbHInventor: Armin Eisenhardt
