Publication number: 20030113519Abstract: The present invention provides a waterbase self seal adhesive system utilizing a self seal adhesive containing no natural rubber. The self seal adhesive system is comprised of a transfer (front) adhesive disposed on a transfer (front) web and an anchor (back) adhesive disposed on an anchor (back) web with the two adhesives forming the seal for the package. The self seal adhesives bond to themselves when pressure is applied to close or seal the packaging material. In one embodiment, when peeled apart, the adhesive transfers from one substrate of the package to the other substrate of the package to enable opening of the package and thereafter prevents resealing of the package. In another embodiment, when peeled apart, the adhesive splits, adhesively fails from either or both the front web or the back web, or destroys one or both of the substrates of the package. In either embodiment, primers and release coatings may also be used to enhance performance of the self seal adhesive.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2002Publication date: June 19, 2003Applicant: Ato Findley, Inc.Inventors: Charles J. Patent number: 6475932Abstract: The fabrication of multi-layered laminated structures involves a high strength through-bonding technique. In its preferred embodiment, the structure is a nonwoven trilaminate structure which has outer layers of nonwoven material, and an inner elastomeric layer which has a plurality of openings therethrough, (e.g., an elastomeric mesh). During fabrication, beads of through-bonding adhesive (e.g., oil resistant, polybutylene-based hot melt adhesive) is applied to at least one of the nonwoven webs. The inner elastomeric mesh web and the two outer nonwoven webs are then aligned and fed into a compression nip. The compression nip compresses the webs together to obtain intimate contact of the two outer nonwoven webs through the openings in the inner elastomeric mesh web.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1999Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Ato Findley, Inc.Inventors: Russell P. Patent number: 6436216Abstract: Laminated elastic webs are manufactured in a pre-stretched condition using a laminating machine. A conveyor system located downstream of the laminating machine conveys the laminated elastic webs to packaging machines (e.g. reject splicers and festooners). The conveyor system operates at speeds proportionally less than the line speed of the laminating machine so that the laminated elastic web relaxes from its stretched condition, and becomes fully or almost fully relaxed and gathered before packaging. Sufficient relaxation is important before packaging so that the laminated elastic web does not set in stretched form while packaged, or alternatively relax further while packaged to create dead space within the packaging container. The conveyor system preferably includes an inclined conveyor belt followed by a multi-lane air conveyor. Each lane of the air conveyor gently transports one of several laminated elastic webs from the belt conveyor to the respective packaging machine.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1999Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Ato Findley, Inc.Inventor: Paul C. Patent number: 5993962Abstract: A resealable packaging system, providing a multiple reseal capability. A strip of pressure sensitive adhesive is applied over a first area of a substrate. Then a strip of cold seal adhesive is layered over the strip of pressure sensitive adhesive. A strip of cold seal adhesive is then applied to a second area of the substrate, or to another substrate, whether of the same or a different type. The materials are chosen so that, when the substrate is aligned and the strips of cold seal adhesive bonded together, the bond formed between the strips of cold seal adhesive, and the bond between the pressure sensitive adhesive and the cold seal adhesive, and the bond between the cold seal adhesive and the substrate, are stronger than the bond between the substrate and the pressure sensitive adhesive. Thus, when the two areas of substrate, now bonded together by the cold seal adhesive, are peeled apart, the pressure sensitive adhesive remains with the cold seal adhesive and is exposed.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1996Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: Ato Findley, Inc.Inventors: Larry S.
