Patent number: 10368472Abstract: A unique scraper assembly for the disc of a furrow opener features an obstruction carried at inner side of the scraper body in a position trailing behind the leading scraper edge to prevent straw from accumulating in the space between the disc and scraper near the leading scraper edge, to block seed or other product delivered into the furrow from skipping forward into this space, to reduce wear on the leading scraper edge by increasing an area of pressured contact with the disc during side loading of the scraper, and/or provide lubricated contact with the disc to reduce rotational resistance during side loading. In some embodiments, the obstruction is defined by a separate insert of distinct material composition from the scraper. A discrete wing member is welded to the scraper at a pre-determined position thereon determined by fitting of the wing member into a mating slot in the scraper.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2017Date of Patent: August 6, 2019Assignee: Atom Jet Industries (2002) LtdInventor: Donald Arksey

Patent number: 9596797Abstract: A multi-piece cutting edge attachment for a circular shaft of a harrow tine features a mounting member formed of a material that is weldable to, and distinct from, a first material of the harrow tine. A cutting edge member is formed of a third material that is harder than the first and second materials and less weldable to harrow tine than the second material of the mounting member. The cutting edge member has a front face and an opposing rear face that is conformingly shaped for placement against a front face of the mounting member at a lower end thereof. The multi-piece arrangement forms a cutting edge of greater hardness than that which is achievable by a material directly attachable to the tine itself.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2015Date of Patent: March 21, 2017Assignee: ATOM JET INDUSTRIES (2002) LTD.Inventors: Donald Arksey, Noel Lagarde, Marcel Lanoie

Patent number: 9066462Abstract: A composite working tool, for example a ground engaging tool of an agricultural implement, features a body composed of a first material and an insert composed of a distinct second material of greater hardness than the first material to define wear resistant surfaces of the tool. The tool body has an opening recessed thereinto from an exposed exterior surface fully surrounding the opening on all sides thereof, and the insert is attached to the body in a position at least partially received within the opening, for example by brazing. The increases the wear life of the body and provides greater mounting strength over surface-mounted wear inserts of the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2013Date of Patent: June 30, 2015Assignee: Atom Jet Industries (2002) Ltd.Inventors: Don Arksey, Noel Lagarde, Marcel Lanoie

Patent number: 8342109Abstract: A delivery boot for mounting on a shank of an agricultural implement and carrying a sweep blade. The boot features a channel member having front, rear and side walls defining a channel extending downward from an inlet proximate the top end to an outlet proximate the bottom end, a sweep connection element defined on the channel member at a front side and a shank connection element defined on the channel member at a rear side thereof. A spreader is supported on the channel member proximate the outlet thereof to receive product delivered from the inlet through the channel member and guide the product laterally outward to both sides of the outlet. Arranged to mount in front of the shank and behind the sweep, the boot positions the outlet ahead of the shank to minimize disruption of product placement by earth falling back into the furrow behind the shank.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2010Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Atom Jet Industries (2002) Ltd.Inventors: Craig Senchuk, Donald Arksey

Patent number: 7568438Abstract: A disc furrow opener and method for single pass placement of seed and fertilizer in agricultural planting uses a scraper to both scrape the disc and form a seed shelf in the furrow formed thereby and delivers seed onto the seed shelf and fertilizer into a bottom portion of the open furrow formed by the disc below the seed shelf. Placement of seed and fertilizer is achievable in a single pass over the area to be seeded without need for a second opening implement rearward of the disc and without being limited to the use of liquid fertilizer.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2008Date of Patent: August 4, 2009Assignee: Atom Jet Industries (2002) Ltd.Inventor: Donald Arksey
