Patent number: 6224591Abstract: Device for hyperthermia treatment in a body cavity comprising a catheter (10) to be introduced into the body cavity and being closed at the distal end thereof. An elastically expandable hose piece (18) is mounted at this end, which is sealingly connected to the catheter at both ends of the hose piece. Two passages (11, 12) extend through the catheter and can be connected each to an associated liquid conduit (26, 27) at the proximal end of the catheter. The passages open under the hose piece through side apertures (21, 22) in the catheter so that the hose piece can be expanded as a balloon by the supply of liquid through one passage liquid being drained off through the other passage. The device comprises external means (28, 31) for circulating liquid through the hose piece on the catheter and heating of the circulating liquid.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1997Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Atos Medical ABInventors: Jan Clarén, Lars Redvall

Patent number: 6024753Abstract: A device for staunching uterine bleeding comprising an expandable balloon and a tubular handle connected therewith for the insertion of the balloon into the uterine cavity, which can be connected to a fluid source for pressurizing the balloon to effecting and maintain the expansion thereof. The balloon is dimensioned to fill the uterine cavity at expansion and to exert pressure against the bounding wall thereof over substantially the total surface of the wall. The device further includes a pump and control unit and a hose connected to one end thereof with the handle at the other end thereof with a connection element for connecting to a fluid source. The hose can be detachable mounted to the pump and control unit in operative co-operation therewith and forms together with the balloon and the handle a separate unit for one-way use.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1998Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Atos Medical ABInventors: Jan Claren, Ulf Ulmsten

Patent number: 5976151Abstract: Method and device and device for inserting a tubular prosthesis having a retainer projecting transversely at each end thereof, said retainer being resiliently foldable towards the axis of said tubular element, into a tracheoesophageal fistula. A loading tube is passed over the prosthesis the retainers being folded projecting substantially axially from the ends of the prosthesis, and the loading tube with the prosthesis enclosed by the loading tube is passed through the fistula from one side of the tracheoesophageal wall and then the loading tube is partly withdrawn the prosthesis being held stationary by a tool inserted into the tube from the other end thereof so that one retainer will be released and will unfold at the other side of the wall. The loading tube is withdrawn further in order that the other retainer will be unfolded at said one side of the tracheoesophageal wall.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1996Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: Atos Medical ABInventor: Nils Siegbahn

Patent number: 5342296Abstract: A method for inserting a drain catheter into an antrum includes the steps of securing a needle holder to the trailing end of a needle, positioning a hammer in predetermined spaced relation to the trailing end of the needle holder, loading a bias member so that it urges the hammer to strike the needle holder, restraining the hammer to maintain the load on the hammer, and quickly releasing the hammer and allowing it to strike the needle holder so that the leading end of the needle punctures the bone of the antrum wall. A first dampening member decelerates the hammer at the end of its displacement, and a second dampening member decelerates the needle and needle holder at the end of their joint displacement. A rigid tube is disposed in ensleeving relation to the needle so that the leading end of the tube is positioned in predetermined proximity to the point of the needle so that the leading end of the tube is carried into the antrum when the needle point punctures the antrum wall.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1992Date of Patent: August 30, 1994Assignee: ATOS Medical ABInventors: Jan-Ove Persson, Lars Lejdeborn, Olle Berg

Patent number: 5314470Abstract: A voice prosthesis is adapted to be inserted into a fistula between an esophagus and a trachea of a user. This prosthesis includes a cylindrical middle piece defining a passageway therethrough which has a groove therein and which has first and second end portions. First and second external flanges extend from respective first and second end portions of the middle piece. The middle piece and the flanges are all made of flexible material. A ring made of a material which is stiff in relation to the flexible material of the middle piece and the flanges is inserted into the groove in the passageway of the middle piece for stiffening of the middle piece. A valve is provided which includes a seat formed in the passageway of the middle piece and a flap extending across the passageway and carried by the middle piece for resting on the seat to close the passageway and is adapted to be moved off the seat to open the passageway.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1992Date of Patent: May 24, 1994Assignee: Atos Medical ABInventor: Jan-Ove Persson
