  • Patent number: 5322318
Abstract: An anti-rolling motion control system for an automotive vehicle is provided. This control system comprises shock absorbers each being variable of a damping coefficient within a range from softer to harder damping characteristics, a steering sensor for monitoring a steered angle of a steering wheel, and a rolling motion control unit. The rolling motion control unit is operable to derive steered angular velocity based on the steered angle of the steering wheel. The rolling motion control unit controls the shock absorbers so that the damping coefficients are modified to exhibit the harder damping characteristics when the steered angular velocity and the steered angle are greater than preselected first and second threshold values respectively for suppressing rolling motion of a vehicle body effectively while securing traveling stability.

  • Patent number: 5323319
Abstract: There is disclosed a damping force controller for controlling a damping force characteristic of a damper disposed between an unsprung mass and a sprung mass of a vehicle. A control unit repeatedly compares an output signal of a load sensor with a predetermined range. After the sensor output signal has been kept deviated from the predetermined range over a predetermined period of time longer than a resonance period of the unsprung mass, a damping force of the damper is increased for enhanced stability of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5310027
Abstract: A control system for a damping force coefficient of a shock absorber for a vehicle suspension provides a controller for correcting the position of a step motor. The controller sets the step motor at a predetermined position in a manner to intermittently move the step motor to a stop position restricted by a stopper and to reversely rotate it by a predetermined number of steps. Therefore, the step motor is precisely set at a home position without using a position detector.

  • Patent number: 5289380
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a damping force for a vehicular damper is disclosed in which the damper is provided with a damping factor adjusting mechanism which is installed for adjusting the damping force characteristic at a plurality of stages. When both directions of a vertical velocity of an sprung mass (vehicle body) and of a relative velocity between the unsprung mass and sprung mass coincide with each other, a controller outputs a control signal to the damping factor adjusting mechanism so that the damping force characteristic of the damper is changed to a higher damping force side, provided that the relative velocity exceeds a predetermined dead zone. In addition, when both directions do not coincide with each other, the controller outputs the control signal so that the damping force characteristic is changed to a lower damping force side.

  • Patent number: 5285876
Abstract: A method of and a system for controlling a hydraulic shock absorber of an automobile are provided. In the shock absorber, a flow of damping fluid induces a load on an actuator of the shock absorber during bouncing and rebouncing of the shock absorber, and the actuator is actuated in response to an output signal of a control unit. In order for the actuator to counteract the load applied thereto, the output signal is modified in response to the load. According to the embodiment, the load is determined by a table look-up operation based on an input load detected by a load sensor mounted to the automobile.
