  • Patent number: 4548100
Abstract: A transmission for motor vehicles having a conical-disc band transmission placed in a casing, a reduction gear and, if necessary, a differential. In order to achieve an optimum transmission-ratio range for motor vehicles and good efficiency, the reduction gear contains two forward speeds and is connected to a fixed gear on the power take-off shaft by means of an additional fixed gear. The driving disc pairs of the conical-disc band transmission are located directly on a section of the drive shaft and on the power take-off shaft. The reduction gear and the conical-disc band transmission can be actuated by means of conventional synchronous clutches. The transmission case is longitudinally fitted with a center wall which subdivides the space into two compartments, one of which is closed by a front cover and the other by a rear cover. While one compartment contains the reduction gear and, if necessary, the differential, the other compartment contains the conical-disc band transmission.

  • Patent number: 4524740
Abstract: The invention relates to a coupling means between an output control member of an internal combustion engine, in particular for automotive vehicles, and an actuator member, which coupling means in the range of small actuations of the actuator member does not open the output control member at all or only slightly, and only at larger actuations does it open the output control member in a noticeable fashion and thereafter moves it into a full-load position. Such a coupling means makes possible an enlarged operative range for a control device which controls the output control member in dependency of the position of the actuator member and at least one operating parameter of the internal combustion engine in a range lying between the full-load position and the minimum opening position determined by the given position of the actuator member.

  • Patent number: 4503639
Abstract: This invention relates to a guidance system for window panes in vehicles, comprising three points of guidance only, one of the points of guidance coinciding with the lifting mechanism. As the pane may be rotated about each one of these points of guidance, the system avoids the occurrance of bending stresses, and a function-related maximum number of degrees of freedom at each point of guidance obviates redundancy, thus providing a smooth and precise guidance of the pane.

  • Patent number: 4469316
Abstract: A mount for securing together two relatively displaceable bodies, such as a motor-vehicle engine and a vehicle chassis, with limited relative freedom of movement has a substantially closed liquid-filled chamber formed by a first resiliently deformable wall and a second wall which may be rigid or resiliently deformable. A partition subdivides this chamber into a pair of compartments and has an elastically deformable and relatively stiff portion and an elastically deformable and relatively yieldable portion. One of these portions is formed with a throughgoing orifice. Stops are provided on each side of the relatively yieldable portion to limit the deflection thereof so that low-amplitude vibrations are not transmitted between the bodies, but high-amplitude vibrations are damped when the yieldable portion abuts the stops.

  • Patent number: 4427215
Abstract: A passive knee restraint for an automotive vehicle is formed by the yieldable rearwardly facing lower wall of a dashboard portion positioned to engage the knees of a seated passenger in an automotive vehicle, thereby restraining the lower portion of the body of the passenger in the seat in the event of sudden vehicle deceleration. According to the invention, this dashboard portion is at least partly swingable on the remainder of the dashboard to afford unrestricted access to the region behind it, thereby allowing repair and maintenance in this region and/or access to articles stored therein as, for example, when a glove compartment is provided behind this swingable part.

  • Patent number: 4415148
Abstract: In an arrangement according to this disclosure, a spring element (3, 7) is arranged between a mounting core member (2) and a support (6) and is connected to a damper mass (9, 12). The damper mass has a container (10) which is filled with pressure liquid and/or gas and closed by a diaphragm (13). The spring rate of the diaphragm can be varied as desired, particularly in dependence on the speed of rotation of the machine or engine. For varying the spring rate of the diaphragm, a pressure plate (15) is associated with the diaphragm, and is displaceable relative to the diaphragm by way of an adjusting arrangement (16, 17) dependent on the speed of rotation of the machine or engine, and the relative configurations of the pressure plate and the facing diaphragm are such that this displacement reduces or increases the free area of the diaphragm, and thus varies its spring rate.

  • Patent number: 4402286
Abstract: An internal-combustion engine having an electric starting motor, an ignition system, and an electric power source is provided with a control system allowing the engine to be stopped and restarted very easily. This system comprises a main ignition switch connected in series between the power source and the ignition system and closable to energize the ignition system from the power source. A manual start switch and an automatic start switch are connected in series between the main ignition switch and the electric starting motor and both are closable when the main ignition switch is closed to energize the starting motor from the power source. A speed-sensing circuit is connected to the engine and to the automatic start switch and is set up to open the automatic start switch and thereby deenergize the start motor when the engine is operating above a predetermined rate of approximately 500 rpm.

  • Patent number: 4388574
Abstract: A windshield wiper is operated by a wiper motor from an electric source, with a control circuit operating the motor. This control circuit has a continuous-wipe switch which when closed operates the wiper continuously. A discontinuous-wipe switch can be closed to start an oscillator, with this oscillator connected to a backward counter which counts backwardly synchronously with the oscillator. A comparator compares the instantaneous numerical output of the counter with a fixed numerical output generated by a settable memory, and operates the wiper briefly when the two outputs agree. A set switch is connected to the memory and can reset it so that when this set switch is operated the fixed numerical output of the memory is fixed at the instantaneous numerical output of the counter, thereby setting the interval between successive wipes of the wiper.

  • Patent number: 4270356
Abstract: A turbocharged engine system has an internal-combustion engine whose exhaust gases drive a turbine at a speed generally proportional to the exhaust-gas pressure. This turbine in turn drives a supercharger that feeds air to the engine intake at a pressure that is generally proportional to the turbine speed. A bypass valve connected across the turbine is opened above a predetermined engine speed to shunt the exhaust gases around the turbine and thereby prevent excessive supercharging of the engine. The pressure of the engine exhaust gases is, however, decreased steadily and proportionately with increasing engine speed above a predetermined second engine speed to operate the engine with an intake-manifold pressure that is slightly below that at which knocking would occur for increased horsepower output.
