Abstract: A rotary piston internal combustion engine of the trochoidal type with a housing. The engine includes at least one peripheral wall portion and at least two parallel side portions and has induction and exhaust ports. Each peripheral wall portion and two associated side portions define a cavity in which a multi-apex piston is rotatably mounted to define variable volume working chambers. The piston is provided with seal elements which are in sliding engagement with the inner surfaces of the housing. The seal elements are provided with a passage for lubricating the inner surfaces of the housing with the passage opening into the cavity in the neighborhood of each induction port in the region of that working chamber which is undergoing the induction phase. The passage is in communication with the atmosphere and has a lubricant feed pipe opening into it. A restriction is provided in the passage between its point of entry into the cavity and the point of entry of the lubricant feed pipe.

  • Patent number: 3938329
Abstract: An exhaust gas detoxication system for a motor vehicle combustion engine with external ignition includes an air pump driven by the engine to deliver secondary air into the exhaust system. The exhaust system contains a thermal reactor wherein final combustion of as yet unburned constituents of the exhaust gas takes place. Since as the speed of the engine increases, more air is delivered than required for final combustion, a blow-off valve is arranged in the delivery line of the air pump, limiting the flow of air supplied to the exhaust system and in general shutting it off completely at a certain engine speed. Exhaust gas detoxication systems to which the invention relates are provided with a means for shifting to retarded ignition during the warm-up phase of the reactor, whereby elevated temperatures of the exhaust gases and hence a faster response of the reactor are obtained.

  • Patent number: 3937197
Abstract: A water-cooled combustion engine has a pump-operated cooling water circuit passing through the cooler when the engine is hot. The cooler is rendered inoperative by a thermostat-controlled by-pass line when the engine is cold. The heating means for the intake system for the engine has a cooling water chamber whose supply line is fed with heated cooling water. The circuit of the heating means is arranged parallel with the cooling circuit through the by-pass line. This heating means is automatically switched off without additional aids as the engine temperature rises, when the by-pass line is shut off by the thermostat valve.
