  • Patent number: 5768392
Abstract: A method and system for blind adaptive filtering an input signal having noise and information signal parameters that are separated by an identifier. An open loop filter stage generates an intermediate filtered signal from the noise parameters and the input signal parameters. A cost function generator generates a first cost function signal and an inverse first cost function signal from the open loop filter parameters. A residual signal is generated from the difference between the input signal and the intermediate filtered signal. Another cost function generator, coupled to the input signal and the residual signal generator, generates a second cost function signal and an inverse second cost function that maximize a stationarity feature of the residual signal. A combiner generates a combined cost function from the inverse first and second cost functions. A quasi-closed loop filter generates the filtered output signal from the intermediate filtered signal.

  • Patent number: 5768395
Abstract: A field coil actuator includes a magnetic flux conductive material case, an electrical current conductive field coil and two electrical current conductive moving coils uniquely arranged. The case has a first surface and a continuous channel disposed in said first surface. The channel has a pair of opposing walls. The field coil is disposed within the channel between the walls so that a gap remains between the walls above the field coil and another gap remains between the walls below the field coil. When a current is induced in the field coil, magnetic flux is developed across the gaps. The flux is confined substantially normal to the walls of the channel. The electrical current conductive moving coils are each disposed moveably in one of the gaps such that an electrical current in the coil develops a Lorentz force on each of the coils in a direction substantially normal to the current in the moving coil and the magnetic flux to displace the moving coil in response to the current in the moving coil.

  • Patent number: 5721694
Abstract: A method and system for filtering a noisy input comprised of an information signal and a noise signal. No prior time domain value information or frequency domain parameter information on the information signal or noise signal is available. A whitening filter renders the noise part of a noise signal into a substantially white noise signal. A fourier transform system provides an amplitude spectrum output and a phase output. A multiplier squares the amplitude spectrum output thus providing a power spectrum output. A zero mean sub-system generates a zero mean power spectrum output from the power spectrum output. A square root sub-system squares the zero mean power spectrum output thus providing a resultant output. An inverse Fourier transform sub-system inversely transforms the resultant output to provide a time domain resultant output. An inverse whitening filter provides a substantially noise free output from the time domain resultant output.

  • Patent number: 5710657
Abstract: A thin film actuated mirror is disclosed having a substrate, a deformable structure mounted to the substrate, and a mirror surface interconnected to the deformable structure such that the mirror surface tilts in response to the deformation of the deformable material layer. The deformation occurs due to the effective strain gradient across the monomorph thickness which is accomplished by varying the electric field across the thickness or the strain parameter across the thickness. The deformable structure includes an active material layer fabricated from a semi-conductive ferroelectric ceramic material and two metal electrodes, each of the electrodes being mounted on opposing surfaces of the active material layer, wherein an electrical signal applied across the active material layer between the electrodes causes deformation of the active material layer.

  • Patent number: 5616982
Abstract: An actuator for tilting the plane of an object includes a substrate and a pair of piezoelectric material members. Each of the piezoelectric members has a top surface, a bottom surface, a first side surface and a second side surface. The bottom surface is mounted to the substrate, and the first side surfaces of each of the members are affixed to each other and electrically connected in common. One of the piezoelectric material members further has a polarization selected so that a voltage applied between the first side surface and the second side surface thereof causes the piezoelectric material member to either contract or expand between the top surface and said bottom surface, depending on the polarity of the voltage. The object is mounted to the top surface of each of the piezoelectric material members so that when a voltage is applied to one of the piezoelectric material members, the object either tilts toward or away from that member, depending on the polarity of the voltage.

  • Patent number: 5548263
Abstract: An electromagnetically actuator is disclosed having an electromagnet, a core element, the core element having a normally biased initial spaced apart first position distal from the electromagnet when the electromagnet is off and a second stop position proximal from the electromagnet when the electromagnet is on, a first resilient member adapted to bias said core element in the normally biased first position, and a second resilient member adapted to bias the electromagnet away from the core. The first resilient member is more resilient than the second resilient member. Therefore, the core approaches the electromagnet when the electromagnet is on until the core reaches the fixed stop position, and the electromagnet subsequently approaches the core to the fixed stop position. The actuator may further include an adjustment member that engages the electromagnet so as to control the pressure of the electromagnet against the second resilient member, whereby the axial position of the electromagnet is controlled.
