  • Patent number: 4251708
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electron beam welding in which a single electron un is displaced from one welding position to another welding position. A welding chamber is positioned at each welding position, and all of the chambers are located under a buffer vacuum enclosure. Preferably each chamber is associated with an individual vacuum pump. During the time the welding gun is operated at one position, the welded pieces are discharged and a set of pieces to be welded is placed at another position.

  • Patent number: 4092516
Abstract: A vacuum enclosure rests on two parts to be seam-welded by the electron-beam welding technique and surrounds a support for an electron gun. The support is made up of two separable elements, the first element being constituted by a frame applied in vacuum-tight manner against the parts to be welded by means of a seal fitted on one face, the other face being applied against a flange of the second element which forms a bell-housing and is applied against the frame.

  • Patent number: 3950629
Abstract: This invention relates to welding torches of the kind comprising a torch body which incorporates a tubular core having means of clamping a refractory electrode which projects beyond the torch body, flow-means for an arc-gas, which flow-means consists of an annular passage between the electrode and an axial flow-controlling sleeve which is arranged about said electrode and co-axially therewith, and means for circulating water to cool the torch body; and a nozzle for shielding the gas surrounding the torch body with a gap therebetween. Such torches are referred to in the industry as "TIG" torches. In such a torch the invention consists in a combination of several features viz:A. the axial length of the annular passage is at least 10mm. and its radial width is between 0.5 and 3 mm. for an axial distance of at least 5 mm. from its upstream end;B. the annular passage is connected upstream to a chamber for distributing the arc-gas andC.

  • Patent number: 3937866
Abstract: A striking process for a plasma beam at high temperature which includes an enclosure between two torches located at opposite sides of the enclosure and outside the enclosure, a stick-electrode introduced lengthwise through a window of one of the torches and brought near the opposite torch until the plasma flame hooks to the stick-electrode, thereby closing between the nozzle and the stick-electrode the circuit of a superimposed current, then pulling the stick-electrode progressively from the enclosure, carrying with it the plasma beam until it meets a second torch which is energized at the very moment of extraction of the stick-electrode, and then disconnecting the stick and closing the laminar plasma flow circuit.
