  • Patent number: 8636300
Abstract: An attachment bracket for fastening an airbag to a vehicle structure includes an opening into which a strap connected to the airbag can be inserted, and a clamping surface provided for resting against the vehicle structure. The attachment bracket is formed from at least a first layer forming the clamping surface and a second layer spaced from the first layer in a spring elastic manner. The first and the second layers can be located on the same side of the vehicle structure. The attachment bracket can be fastened to the vehicle structure by a fastening means. The distance between the first and the second layer can be reduced by fastening the attachment bracket with the fastening means. A clamping force acting between the first layer and the vehicle structure can be generated by reducing the distance.

  • Patent number: 8628112
Abstract: With the curtain air bag system according to this aspect, if the vehicle ends up rolling over, the main deployment portion receives a supply of gas and consequently inflates and deploys in a curtain shape. Also, the auxiliary deployment portion inflates and deploys by receiving a supply of gas from this main deployment portion via the gas passage. The head of an occupant seated in the front seat is protected against a rollover by the main deployment portion and the auxiliary deployment portion. Here, with the curtain air bag system described above, the upper end portion of the auxiliary deployment portion is connected to the front pillar via the connecting portion. Therefore, it is possible to prevent or effectively suppress the upper end of the auxiliary deployment portion from becoming offset in the vehicle width direction with respect to the front pillar when protecting the head of an occupant, which improves occupant head protection performance forward of the seat.

  • Patent number: 8622424
Abstract: There is disclosed a safety device for a motor vehicle. The device comprises an inflatable (6) element formed from two opposing layers of fabric (10, 11) and the two layers of fabric are interconnected by a plurality of tether yarns (18) extending between said layers. Each said tether yarn (18) is a composite yarn comprising an outer thread (21) and a core thread (20), with the outer thread (21) being overfed on the core thread (20) and having a higher breaking strength than the core thread (23). The device is preferably configured such that the core threads (20) of the tether yarns (18) break (23) upon inflation of said inflatable element (6), thereby permitting the outer thread (21) to unravel and extend the effective length of the tether yarns (18) between said layers.

  • Patent number: 8616484
Abstract: A pretensioner includes a gas generator, a pinion, a tube pipe, a piston ball, a plurality of balls, and a tube cover. The tube pipe includes a tubular part that is formed continuously from one end portion to the other end in order to receive the piston ball and the plurality of balls. A hook portion formed at the other end portion is angled toward the pinion. A tip end part of the hook portion is attached to at least one of a refractor frame and the tube cover. With this construction, a reduction in an engagement amount between the pinion and the balls during operation of the pretensioner can be prevented, and as a result, the pinion can be rotated efficiently.

  • Patent number: 8596680
Abstract: Disclosed is a vehicle airbag. The vehicle airbag includes a deployment restricting member linked with an upper portion of a rear surface part of an outer portion of the vehicle airbag, prepared in a strip shape, and having one end statically fixed with a collar of the vehicle airbag in adjacent to the collar of the vehicle airbag and an opposite end coupled with the upper portion of the rear surface part of the outer portion of the vehicle airbag, thereby delaying the rear surface part of the vehicle airbag. A tear part is provided at the central portion of the deployment restricting member so that the tear part is torn under a predetermined pressure. In initial deployment of the vehicle airbag, the upper portion of the rear surface part of the airbag is confined in a folded state, so that the lower portion of the airbag is first inflated. The airbag is prevented from being suddenly inflated, thereby preventing the chest, the neck, or the head of the occupant from being injured.
