  • Patent number: 8578653
Abstract: Drive assembly for a door, gate or barrier, having a rail or track, a trolley for connection to the door, gate or barrier, mountable to run along the rail or track, and a longitudinal drive having a chain or belt connectable in a closed loop arrangement around or within the rail or track. The trolley is provided with an engagement mechanism for selective engagement between the trolley and the longitudinal drive mechanism, whereby the engagement mechanism includes an engagement member arranged for selective movement in a direction substantially transverse to the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal drive and in a direction less than 45° from the plane of the loop of the longitudinal drive. The engagement member includes or cooperates with a cam part arranged for selective rotation about the engagement member, and a camming cooperation occurs between the cam part and the trolley body for converting rotation of the cam part about the engagement member into the required movement of the engagement member.

  • Publication number: 20130162190
Abstract: An integrated controller for an operator unit for powering an overhead garage roller door or roller shutter is described. The operator unit comprises a motor, an output drive assembly, a timing assembly unit, and a clutch assembly for providing selective engagement between motor powered operation and manual operation (provided by a chain rotating a chain wheel). The motor is arranged to drive a shaft which, in turn, provides drive to the roller door or shutter assembly (not shown), which includes an axle around which the roller door or shutter is wound. The integrated controller comprises an inverter for receiving a single phase power supply and supplying three phase power to drive the motor; and a drive controller in operable association with the inverter for providing active management of the operation of the motor.

  • Publication number: 20130140130
Abstract: The invention relates to a clutch assembly (8) for providing selective engagement with a rotatable shaft, in particular for selecting between manual and powered driving of an output drive such as a door, shutter or gate. The clutch assembly (8) comprises a stop (16) arranged to rotate with the shaft (18), a cam (20) arranged to move relative to the shaft (18), and a follower (24) arranged to rotate around the shaft (18) and axially movable along the shaft in and out of engagement with the stop (16). The follower (24) is operatively associated with the cam (20) so that movement of the follower relative to the cam brings the follower into engagement with the stop (16) by axial movement, so causing rotation of the shaft (18).

  • Patent number: 8037922
Abstract: A device for monitoring motion of a movable closure arranged for travel between limit positions, comprising an absolute position encoder for identifying whether the closure is in one of a plurality of sectors of travel, a relative position encoder for monitoring the speed and relative position of the closure, and a drive means for operatively coupling the relative position encoder and the absolute position encoder to the closure, such that there is a fixed relationship between motion of the closure and movement of both encoders, wherein the absolute position encoder features an adjustment assembly comprising a first element and a second element, the first element being selectively adjustable in position relative to the second element to adjust the absolute position encoder without movement of the drive means or the relative position encoder.

  • Publication number: 20090260291
Abstract: The invention relates to a noise reduction device. More particularly, the present invention relates to a device that is suitable for use with a drive chain, for reducing noise and vibration resulting from the chain contacting its surrounding environment (rattle noise). The present invention has particular but not exclusive application in reducing noise in chains installed as part of powered door assemblies. In one form, the invention provides a noise reduction device suitable for use with a chain comprising a plurality of connected links, the device adapted for attachment to a link, such that when attached, the member is fixed to and movable with the link and presents one or more surfaces to an environment surrounding the chain, the or each surface provided with damping means to reduce noise associated with the chain contacting the surrounding environment.

  • Patent number: 6657409
Abstract: A control system for a door or gate which is movable between an open position and a closed position by an automated operator, comprising a door travel organizer which divides the door travel into a plurality of segments and each segment into a plurality of sectors; a sensor to sense at each sector, the resistance of the door or gate against opening and closing whilst moving between the open position and the closed position over a predetermined number of open close cycles, and to generate at least one signal representative of that resistance in each segment over the open close cycle, a recorder connected to the sensor to receive each representative signal and to store such a signal; a comparator to compare each signal with a resistance trip point set for each segment and generate a resistance profile for the door or gate over an open close cycle of the door or gate; a calculator to calculate the resistance trip point for the door or gate for each segment based upon the highest resistance encountered in any sec

  • Patent number: 6305457
Abstract: A rolling door drive assembly including a final drive unit for connection to a door, whereby the door may be rotated by the final drive unit about an axis to open and close the door, a motor, a drive between the final drive unit and the motor operatively engaged with the motor, one or more drive axes about which one or more components of the drive rotate to transfer drive from the motor to the final drive unit, an actuator to bring the drive to a first configuration at which the motor is engaged to drive the final drive unit through the drive and to bring the drive to a second configuration at which the motor is disengaged from driving the final drive unit, and a resilient spring for urging the drive into one of the configurations. The actuator includes a cam rotatable about a cam axis separate from the one or more drive axes. The cam acts to set the desired configuration of the drive.
