Publication number: 20210131376Abstract: A modular cylinder head is configured for use with combustion engine block configurations each having different valvetrain oiling pathways. Thus, when used with “LA-style” engine blocks, oil receiving/delivery ports provided by the cylinder head are compatibly interfaced with an oil outlet port provided by the engine block, thus allowing oil to pass from the engine block into the head for delivery to a valvetrain carried thereby. Alternatively, when the head is used with “Magnum-style” engine blocks, the oil receiving/delivery ports of the head are not used. Rather, a pushrod and lifter having internal ports are used by the cylinder head to allow oil to pass from the engine block, through the internal ports of the lifter and pushrod, and into the valvetrain.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2019Publication date: May 6, 2021Applicant: Autosales, IncorporatedInventors: Cory M. Patent number: 8231278Abstract: A cam journal for attaching a camshaft to a cylinder head includes an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion and lower portion of the cam journal have a generally semi-circular bearing surfaces, chamfer regions, and circumferential beveled edges. The lower portions also include oil holes. The cam journal is removably attached to a cylinder head by first connecting multiple cam journal lower portions to the cylinder head, then positioning a camshaft on those lower portions. Upper portions are placed over the camshaft and are connected to the lower portions. A fastener is used to securely connect the cam journal to the cylinder head.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2009Date of Patent: July 31, 2012Assignee: Autosales, IncorporatedInventors: Brian C. Patent number: 7096553Abstract: A device (10) adapted to position a ring (R) in the bore (B) of a cylinder (C) so that the ring (R) is perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder (C) includes a first segment (11) and a second segment (12). The first segment (11) has a tongue (20) which is slidably received in a groove (34) in the second segment (12). A threaded shaft (37) of a hand screw (35) is received through the groove (34) and into a threaded aperture (21) in the tongue (20) to attach the first segment (11) to the second segment (12). Arcuate surfaces (18) and (27) of the first and second segments (11, 12), respectively, define a portion of the circumference of a circle approximately the diameter of the bore (B) when the segments (11, 12) are attached to each other. The ring (R) is positioned in the bore (B) and the device (10) is inserted in the bore (B) until the lip (19, 28) of the first and second segments (11, 12) rest on the top edge of the cylinder (C).Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2004Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Assignee: Autosales, IncorporatedInventor: Brain C. Patent number: 6932686Abstract: A piston ring grinding device (10) includes a base portion (12) which is provided with spaced collars (21, 22) which receive an axle (28). A grinding wheel (26) having an abrasive surface (27) is carried by the axle (28), and a handle assembly (30) is provided for rotation of the axle (28) and the grinding wheel (26). The axle (28) may be received in either the first collar (21) or the second collar (22) for selective right hand or left hand operation of the device (10). An adjustable locator (60) is Y-shaped having an elongate body (62) with a channel (70) therein and branches (64, 65) which provide contact points (68, 69) for the piston ring (R). Once the piston ring (R) is engaging the contact points (68, 69), and thereby properly positioned on the base portion (12), a thumbscrew (73) may be tightened to attach the locators (60) to the base portion (12), and the ends of the piston ring (R) are ready to be ground.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2004Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: Autosales, IncorporatedInventor: Brian C. Patent number: 5873341Abstract: A cylinder head assembly for an internal combustion engine. The cylinder head assembly has a deck surface for engaging an opposed deck surface on an engine block. A combustion chamber is recessed in the cylinder head assembly for each cylinder, and the combustion chambers each have first and second wedge portions. A first valve port penetrates the first wedge portion, and a valve seat is provided in the first valve port. The first valve seat is disposed at a first angle relative to the deck surface. A second valve port penetrates the second wedge portion, and a valve seat is provided in the second valve port. The second valve seat is disposed at a second angle relative to the mounting surface. The second angle is less than the first angle. Each valve seat has a valve element for controlling the ingress and egress of gas flowing to and from the chamber. The wedge portions permit a more erect valve orientation for the intake valve such that less scavenging of the fresh fuel/air charge will occur.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1994Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Autosales, IncorporatedInventors: Richard William Smith, Jr., Mark David Howard

Patent number: 5257612Abstract: An improved cast cylinder head for a high performance internal combustion engine is provided by an especially configured quench surface from which a contoured combustion chamber extends having a metal mass buildup shrouding the exhaust gases through the exhaust valve seat. A metal mass buildup configuration is also provided about the intake valve seat which acts in conjunction with an especially configured and proportioned valve intake passage to draw the fuel-air mixture into the combustion chamber in an unshrouded, helical flow pattern. The intake passageway configuration is such that a rich fuel-air mixture is drawn through the intake valve seat at a portion thereof remote from said exhaust valve seat while a lean fuel-air mixture exits the intake valve seat adjacent the exhaust valve seat. Positioning the fuel-air mixture in such a manner in combination with the unshrouded metal mass buildup minimizes short-circuiting of the fuel through the exhaust valve seat in a valve overlap condition.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1992Date of Patent: November 2, 1993Assignee: Autosales, IncorporatedInventors: Richard W.
