  • Patent number: 8711443
Abstract: A compact multi-functional scanning apparatus includes a sheet-fed scanner, a casing and a flatbed scanner. The casing is attached to the sheet-fed scanner and has a recess. The flatbed scanner is movable between a retracted position within the recess and a deployed position outside the recess. In the deployed position the flatbed scanner is enabled to perform a flatbed-scanning task. An open end of the recess is located on a lateral side of the casing, and the flatbed scanner is movable into and out of the recess through the open end.

  • Patent number: 8305658
Abstract: The invention provides an automatic document feeder for a scanning apparatus. The automatic document feeder includes a feeding passage, a feeding mechanism, a shaft, an idle roller, and a detecting device. The feeding mechanism is used for transporting a document along the feeding passage. The shaft is disposed at the feeding passage, and the idle roller is sleeved on the shaft. When the document is transported through the feeding passage, the idle roller is driven to rotate by the document. The detecting device detects a rotational speed of the idle roller and outputs a detection signal according to the rotational speed of the idle roller.

  • Patent number: 7285965
Abstract: A paper-width detecting device includes a paper guide, a conductive element, a circuit board and a control-processing unit. The paper guide is movably disposed on a paper tray for accommodating different sizes of papers. The conductive element attaching to the paper guide and moving simultaneously with the paper guide has a plurality of first conductive portions. The circuit board has a plurality of conductive wires, which is formed by a plurality of separated second conductive portions on the surface of the circuit board. An insulating region is formed between any two adjacent second conductive portions of each conductive wire. The control-processing unit is for providing an electric voltage between the conductive wires and the conductive element. When the paper guide presses against the paper, the control-processing unit generate a paper-width value corresponding to the number of current passages formed between the first conductive portions and the corresponding conductive wire thereof.

  • Patent number: 6549305
Abstract: The invention relates to an optical scanner for saving power. The optical scanner comprises a scanning module for scanning a document to generate corresponding image signals, a cold cathode ray tube for supplying lights to the document when scanning the document, a power source for supplying electric power to the cold cathode ray tube, and a control circuit for controlling operations of the scanner. When the scanning module is in an idle state, the control circuit controls the active period of each of the power source's duty cycles to reduce the electric power supplied to the cold cathode ray tube so that the cold cathode ray tube can be maintained in a warm state and the startup time for warming the cold cathode ray tube to scan the document is reduced.
