    Abstract: A magnetically operated valve having a resilient flat-surfaced valve member cooperating with a valve seat is disclosed. The resilient member is preferably mounted on an armature in a manner to permit relative motion therebetween to allow the armature to gain a predetermined inertia prior to engaging the resilient member so as to aid in overcoming the pressure differential across the resilient member. Additionally, the electromagnet thereof acts unevenly on the armature so as to cause tilting movement thereof and a corresponding "prying" movement of the resilient member from the valve seat. The valve may be operated in the normally-opened or the normally-closed mode. In one embodiment, at least a portion of the armature is provided with a non-magnetic covering or coating, thereby forming a non-magnetic gap thereon. In another embodiment, a non-magnetic wear plate is disposed between at least a portion of the electromagnet and the armature.

The cylinder is pressurized prior to assembly of the complete piston and rod into the cylinder. The piston assembly includes orifice by-pass means either in the piston periphery or in a piston ring, and the piston may include a fail-safe provision in the event the orifice is clogged. A crimping die assembly is used in assembling and completing final assembly of the counterbalance components while simultaneously maintaining the link in a pressurized environment, utilizing sealed arrangement between the crimping dies to maintain pressurization of the interior of the dies and the counterbalance components prior to assembly of the components.

    Abstract: A pneumatic, piston/cylinder counterbalance in which the counterbalance force is obtained by differential pressure across the piston and in which the force changes due to temperature are compensated by use of a variable volume cylinder having one or more auxiliary chambers separated by walls, each including a temperature responsive bi-metal disc valve normally acting as a check valve permitting flow into the auxiliary chambers but preventing flow out of the chambers except when the temperature drops to a predetermined value. In the multiple auxiliary chamber embodiment, flow into and out from each chamber is controlled by an associated bi-metal disc valve responsive to successively lower temperatures to enable a more linear stabilization of force output regardless of temperature.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a vacuum pump device that is adapted to create a vacuum source from a source of high pressure air. The device comprises a piston actuated in one direction by compressed air and in the opposite direction by a power return spring. The compressed air moves the piston to load the spring and the spring moves the piston to create a vacuum. A special dumping valve is also provided which is actuated toward the end of the return stroke of the piston to cause a sudden increase in the pressure differential across the piston to prevent stalling of the piston when loading is such that the piston moves very slowly, thereby assuring that the vacuum pump will cycle as often as is necessary to maintain the desired vacuum.

The system includes a locking assembly which is easily installed, removed and replaced without major effort and without major modification to the cabinet. This capability is provided through a novel arrangement of a cam plate pivotally connected to an insertable plunger lock, an internal support bracket uniquely adapted to receive and support and otherwise cooperate with the cam plate and plunger lock, and a reciprocating lock bar permanently mounted within a structural element of the cabinet. With the arrangement provided, only the cam plate and plunger lock are required to convert a cabinet incapable of being locked to a lockable cabinet.

    Abstract: A voting machine system employs a processor section and a plurality of peripheral units, all interconnected by a two-way street or bus system. The peripheral units constitute the voting machine proper and the processor or section acts upon the data generated by the peripheral units. One of the peripheral units is a visual display whereas the ballot format upon which a voter may vote is displayed. This ballot format is called up and displayed in response to unique input provided by the voter and different ballot formats are stored for call-up. Vote selections are made by the voter from the display. Provision is made for voter write-in selections which are stored in machine-readable, i.e., digital form. Two other peripheral units are redundant recording devices, one of which remains with the machine for a permanent record and the other of which is removable to permit forwarding thereof to a central data accumulation center.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a family of check and/or pressure relief fluid valves utilizing a spring biased annular diaphragm element for valving. In a single-function form there is disclosed a simple check valve. In a dual-function form there is disclosed a check valve also having a pressure relief function permitting reverse flow above a predetermined pressure differential, this form being disclosed in an automotive fuel tank filler tube cap (i.e. a "gas cap"). There is also disclosed an improved filler tube cap construction and seal therefor. In a multifunction form there is disclosed a fluid valve capable of relieving a source of fluid under pressure to a primary outlet at a first very low pressure and additionally to a secondary outlet at a higher pressure. This valve also acts as a check valve by preventing the pressure of the fluid source from dropping below that at the secondary outlet.
