Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring form parameters of items (2) utilizing a camera (10) which is sensitive to infrared light, and, while passing the items through a field of view (11) of the camera (10), the items are illuminated with light flashes of approximately 1 ms by solid state LEDs (41), which are arranged at the centerline of the items (2) and produce a light beam (43) which includes an angle of approximately 45.degree. with the direction of conveyance of the items (2).
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for measuring the color distribution of an item wherein the item is rotated in the field of view of a camera and successive line images of the item parallel to the axis of rotation of the item are measured and the data contents of the picture elements of the successive line images of the surface of the item are processed. In an embodiment in which the camera is a matrix camera, the item is at the same time transported through the field of view of the camera and the successive line images of the item are obtained from successive video lines of the camera.

Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for grading flowers on the basis of the thickness of the stem, wherein each flower stem is passed between a rotatable roller and a restraint. One of these two members is arranged for movement and is urged towards the other member under the influence of a force. The displacement of the rotatable roller resulting from the passage of the flower stem is a measure for the thickness of the stem. The rotatable roller is driven at a peripheral velocity which is approximately equal to the speed of the passing flowers.
Abstract: This invention relates to an orienting apparatus for orienting round or approximately round articles, for instance fruit, comprising two parallel rollers extending obliquely upwardly and rotating in the same direction, and a chain with conveying elements, arranged above the rollers and extending obliquely upwardly, each conveying element having a holder formed with an annular cup in which a ball is mounted. The ball is freely rotatably mounted on a horizontal bearing pin in the holder so that a quick orientation of the articles can be accomplished.
