    Abstract: An improved wastewater treatment system requires less land usage and achieves greater control of the modular treatment processes embodied therein. A vertically stacked system contains at least two different treatment process zones, one atop the other and separated by a water-impermeable barrier, which reduces land area requirements. Water to be treated is directed from one treatment process to the other sequentially and exits the system in a purified condition.
