Patent number: 6468377Abstract: A flexible container is provided for the storage and administration of medical solutions. The container incorporates a transparent front sheet made from a planar layer of a polymer and an opposing rear sheet. The rear sheet is made from a planar laminate layer. The front and rear sheets are sealed together along a common peripheral edge to form a volume enclosure. The volume enclosure is constructed of materials having high oxygen and moisture barrier properties which allows the container thermoplastic to be stored for extended periods of time without degrading the contents. The volume enclosure is then inflated with a pressurized gas to permanently stretch the front and rear sheets outwardly and to thereby increase the volume capacity of the container. An alternative embodiment of the container incorporates multiple compartments, separated by peelable seals, for containing a diluent and a medicament.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1999Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: B. Patent number: 6203535Abstract: A flexible container is provided for the storage and mixing together of diluents and medicaments. The container incorporates multiple compartments, separated by peelable seals, in which the diluents and medicaments are stored. The container is constructed of thermoplastic materials having high oxygen and moisture barrier properties which allows the container to be stored for extended periods of time without degrading the contents. The seals are ruptured by manipulation of the container to thereby mix the contents together for delivery through standard IV arrangement to a patient. The seals are constructed to provide a non-linear resistance characteristic to hydraulic pressure, which causes the seal to peel open completely along its length. The container is folded-over along the line of one of the seals and also includes a locking tab and retaining slot to secure the bag in a folded-over condition.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: B. Patent number: 6117123Abstract: A flexible container is provided for the storage and mixing together of diluents and medicaments. The container incorporates multiple compartments, separated by preferentially peelable seals, in which the diluents and medicaments are stored. The container is constructed of thermoplastic materials having high oxygen and moisture barrier properties which allows the container to be stored for extended periods of time without degrading the contents. The peelable seals are ruptured by manipulation of the container to thereby mix the contents together for delivery through standard IV arrangement to a patient. The seals are constructed such that the seal between the diluent and medicament compartments is preferentially ruptured such that a liquid medicament and a diluent are always mixed before the combined solution is accessible for administration. The container is fillable with a single component liquid medicament which may be susceptible to sloshing or turbulence.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: B. Braun Medical, Inc.Inventors: Ward W. Barney, Steven L. Smith

Patent number: 6117115Abstract: A medical tubing and slide clamp set is disclosed for use with a medical infusion pump designed for operation with a preselected medical tubing set having predetermined size and functional characteristics. The medical tubing and slide clamp includes a preselected medical tubing set having predetermined size and function characteristics. An opaque slide clamp is provided with a grasping end and a longitudinal clamp plate extending from the grasping end. The longitudinal clamp plate defines a clamp slot with a wide open portion sized for receiving the preselected medical tubing without closing the tubing, a narrow open portion sized for closing the tubing and a transition portion interconnecting the narrow and wide portions. A plurality of orifices are formed along the longitudinal clamp plate at predetermined locations arranged according to the size and functional characteristics of the medical tubing set.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: B. Patent number: 6064797Abstract: A rotation control for a device to be rotated includes a variable speed DC motor having a constant rotational speed upon receiving a selected fixed voltage electrical input power from an adjustable electrical input power supply connected to the motor for supplying the selected fixed voltage. A switch circuit is connected between the motor and the power supply activatable in response to a first electrical signal to turn the motor "on" and activatable in response to a second electrical signal to turn the motor "off". A selectable frequency, regular interval electrical signal device is connected to the switch circuit to provide electrical signals to activate the switch circuit to turn the motor "on" at regular intervals. An encoder wheel is coupled to the device to be rotated and to the motor for rotation of the timing disk at a speed proportional to the constant rotational speed of the motor. The timing disk has a plurality of openings around the disk with predetermined spacing there between.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1998Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Assignee: B. Patent number: 5984944Abstract: An introducer for introducing an expandable implantable device into a catheter includes an outer tube and an inner core which slides in the outer tube. A first end of the core has a tubular configuration with a slit which allows it to expand radially to grip an end of the device. The first end of the core holding the device is pulled into a first end of the outer tube which further tightens the grip on the device. The second end of the core, which extends beyond the second end of the outer tube, may have a handle attached or be bent to prevent the core from moving and releasing the device. The core preferably has a metal wire inside of it. The device remains in its relaxed condition attached to the introducer at the first end of the outer tube and mostly outside of it until use. The outer tube may have a rigid transparent cup-shaped shield member attached at its first end and extending beyond it to protect the device and allow the device to be viewed on the introducer.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1998Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: B. Patent number: 5976115Abstract: A spike adapter and blunt cannula spike adapter assembly comprises a spike adapter having a hollow chamber extending axially therethrough from a first body end to a second body end. The hollow chamber is adapted to receive and accommodate attachment with a blunt cannula therein. A spike shaft projects axially outwardly away from the adapter body second end and has a sharpened tip at a distal end. A spike cover is disposed over the spike shaft to cover the sharpened tip. The spike shaft includes a hollow channel extending axially therethrough that is adapted to accommodate placement of a blunt cannula shaft concentrically therein to allow the blunt cannula to access medicine containers having unslit septums or stoppers. The spike adapter body includes axially extending grooves that accommodate blunt cannula tongues therein to form a tongue and groove attachment therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: B. Patent number: 5954696Abstract: A portable, ambulatory infusion pump for use with standard pre-filled infusion medicament containers is powered by a miniature compressed gas cylinder coupled to a mechanical pressure regulator which supplies regulated gas at a substantially constant pressure to an inflatable bladder. The bladder is positioned between a substantially rigid pressure surface and a moveable pressure transfer plate and pushes against the transfer plate when inflated. A pre-filled medicament container is positioned over the pressure transfer plate and is squeezed between the transfer plate and the pump housing cover as the plate is displaced in response to inflation of the flexible bladder. A safety interlock assembly is connected between the pressure regulator and the inflatable bladder and prevents inflation of the bladder unless the housing cover is completely closed. Upon inadvertent opening of the pump, the internal pressurization system is vented to atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1997Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Assignee: B.
