Patents Assigned to B. D. Wait Co. Limited
  • Patent number: 4770157
Abstract: A barbeque having, for example, a heat source in the form of a gas burner, is provided with a device which permits smoke flavoring of food cooked on the barbeque. Wood chips are contained in a drawer which is received by a complementary sleeve located between the heat source and a cooking grill of the barbeque. During cooking the wood chips are heated by the heat source and the air flow through the drawer is restricted so that the wood chips give off smoke without igniting. The smoke flows about and flavors the food being cooked on the barbeque. Access to the sleeve and the wood chip drawer may be gained through a side wall of the barbeque body and thus the supply of wood chips may be replenished without interfering with the cooking operation. Means is provided to control the volume of smoke produced by the device.

  • Patent number: 4741321
Abstract: This invention provides a portable barbeque having a base and a lid hinged to one another. A pair of allochiral feet are hinged to the bottom of the base and are arranged to lock to the base when deployed to support the base so that there is little likelihood of upsetting the structure. After use, the lid is closed and the feed can be dislodged and folded over the lid to hold the lid closed against the base and to store the feet. This invention also provides a base and a lid and a heat source contained in the base with grill support means inside the base. A shelf is supported in the base and has dividers between sections of the shelf to restrain movement of inert cinders placed on the shelf. A grill also supported by the base is spaced from the shelf such that the cinders are retained by the grill on the shelf should the housing be tilted or turned upside-down.

  • Patent number: 4730771
Abstract: This invention provides a device for meeting the demand of a forced-air furnace for make-up air in a building, the make-up air being available from a duct leading from outside the building. The device takes warm air from the hot air plenum of the furnace and returns the air to the return air plenum. This flow of air is caused by a differential pressure between the two ducts when the furnace is operational and operates a valve element which normally closes the duct carrying outside air and opens to permit flow of this air in response to the passage of warm air between the hot air and return plenums.

  • Patent number: 4718399
Abstract: The invention provides an adjustable wagon for supporting a range of sizes of barbeques, the wagon includes a base and first and second end structures for attachment to the base at selected locations to extend upwardly in parallel from the base. The end structures can be spaced selected distances from one another according to the size of barbeque to be supported, and they include supports for receiving the barbeque between the end structures so that the barbeque becomes a structural element of the total assembly.

  • Patent number: 4708830
Abstract: A seal assembly for use with a float valve whereby an inlet for liquid being admitted to a reservoir is shut to cut off liquid flow when a predetermined level of liquid has been admitted to the reservoir. The seal assembly comprises an adjustment knob and a collar located around the knob. The knob is used to select the level of liquid in the reservoir at which sealing is required and has a portion which is eccentric with respect to an axis of rotation of the knob. The collar has an inner wall which bears against the eccentric portion so that it can move radially upon rotation of the knob and make sealing contact with an inlet nozzle. An obstruction region provided on the collar, at which sealing occurs, has a deflector to either side so that spray from the inlet nozzle is controlled. Structure is provided to limit rotation of the collar with the knob. Conveniently, the arrangement provides adequate sealing with controlled spray characteristics relatively independently of the position of the adjustment knob.

  • Patent number: 4691689
Abstract: This invention provides an adjustable damper having a tubular duct section defining first and second diametrically opposed openings and first and second sets of detents formed radially from the material of the duct about the respective openings to define a plurality of damper settings. The first detent set is offset angularly relative to the second detent set and a valve element is provided having a circular central portion proportioned to fit within the duct section. Diametrically opposed first and second shoulders project from the periphery of the disc and aligned first and second stub axles are formed from the material of the disc and depend from the respective first and second shoulders. These shoulders are engaged with the respective first and second sets of detents such that in any one selected angular position of the valve element, the element is located by engagement of one of the shoulders in one of the detents of the detent sets.

  • Patent number: 4540530
Abstract: A humidifier pad for use in humidifiers suitable for adding moisture to the air circulated by a forced air furnace is described together with its method of manufacture. A slab of open-cell foam is stamped using a reciprocating cutter to form humidifier pads which are seamless. These seamless pads are adapted to be fitted onto the cylindrical support frame of the humidifier and the pad is especially useful in a combination with a type of frame which is collapsible cylindrical and which facilitates removal and replacement of the pad.

  • Patent number: 4490311
Abstract: Improvements to humidifiers are provided. A housing has sides permitting a motor and air duct to be fitted with the motor on one of the sides and the duct on the other to facilitate assembly. The housing is also formed to facilitate removal of a tray containing water. Further features of the invention are a water valve which permits simple adjustment to control various water heights in the tray, and a novel float.

  • Patent number: 4489015
Abstract: This invention provides a support for a tubular humidifier pad such that the pad can be replaced easily and efficiently. This is achieved by providing a support having a movable end which can be collapsed to release the pad which is carried on axial stringers attached to this end. The stingers deflect radially inwards so that the old pad can be removed over the collapsed end and a new one put in place. The procedure is then reversed to hold the pad on the support.

  • Patent number: 4482181
Abstract: A lifter for lifting and manipulating a grill over a heat source such as a barbeque has a hooked portion shaped to pass between adjacent parallel bars of the grill and upon rotating the lifter, to locate under one of the adjacent bars with ends of the hooked portion spaced along this bar. A reaction element is spaced from the hooked portion for engagement with at least one further bar spaced from the adjacent bars; and a handle, the hooked portion and the reaction element are coupled in a fixed relationship relative to one another so that the lifter can be used to move the grill while maintaining the grill in a generally horizontal position with the reaction element in engagement with the further bar or bars, and to lift the grill with the grill hanging freely from the lifter.

  • Patent number: 4361523
Abstract: A housing for a humidifer is provided which facilitates assembly of the humidifier with the inlet duct positioned either to the left or to the right of the humidifier housing. This assembly is made possible by providing the housing with similar first and second walls and a pair of end walls which extend between the first and second walls. A back defines a first opening and one of the ends defines a second opening midway between the first and second walls so that air can be humidified by passing the air through the housing between the first and second openings. The other of the ends is adapted to receive drive means for driving a humidifier from inside the chamber and one of the ends provides means adapted to receive a water inlet assembly so that the housing can be assembled with one or the other of the first and second walls uppermost depending upon the desired location of the second opening.
