Patents Assigned to B-K Lighting, Inc.
  • Patent number: 10487997
Abstract: The disclosure described herein is directed to an in-grade lighting fixture with improved heat dissipation that provides greater flexibility in servicing, replacing, or installing internal components within the fixture. The in-grade lighting fixture comprises features to assist in dissipating heat generated by light sources, such as LEDs, and/or other electronic components to optimize performance and allow for increased output power for the light sources. The disclosure uses a heat sink assembly that is in thermal communication with the in-grade lighting fixture in order to dissipate heat within the lighting fixture out to the ambient, which optimizes performance and allows for increased output power for the light source.

  • Patent number: 7370988
Abstract: A hydrological barrier plate for in-grade light fixture housings and a housing for use with light fixtures to prevent water entry into the water sensitive compartments of the light fixture. The barrier plate has a plate body with an opening in which is sealably disposed an anti-syphon wire pass-through valve for electrically connecting the components on one side of the barrier plate with the wires in the junction box on the opposite side of the barrier plate. The barrier plate is sealed around its outer edge against the housing wall. The pass-through valve is configured to prevent water from wicking along the wires and to prevent water from passing around the valve. The barrier plate is installed without tools and an effective seal is easily obtained. Using the barrier plate, water is prevented from migrating between the junction box and the primary housing compartments of the housing.

  • Patent number: 7175297
Abstract: An in-grade light fixture, comprising a below grade light fixture having a light opening substantially at grade level. An optical chamber is arranged within the light fixture housing and holding a light source generating light that passes through the light opening. A faceplate mechanism mounted over the light opening and to the optical chamber, and is held in place by mounting screws. The faceplate mechanism is at least partially rotatable over the light opening so that the location of said mounting screws can be adjusted around the light opening. An adjustment mechanism is included to adjust the height and angle of the faceplate mechanism to match the height and angle of the surrounding grade level and angle. A holding mechanism can also be included for holding the light fixture housing at the desired height within a hole prior to being buried. An anti-condensation valve can also be included on the optical chamber.

  • Patent number: 7041901
Abstract: An electrical fixture is disclosed that has an electrical enclosure, a knockout plug coupled to the electrical enclosure with an interference fit, and a seal coupled to a circumference of the knockout plug between the knockout plug and electrical enclosure so that the seal provides an environmental barrier between an interior and exterior of the electrical enclosure. A method is also disclosed for providing an environmental barrier for a tapered-threaded knockout of an electrical enclosure including placing a seal on a knockout plug and pressing the knockout plug into the tapered-threaded knockout to establish an interference fit between the knockout plug and tapered-threaded knockout. The knockout plug is detachably coupled to the tapered-threaded knockout, with the seal providing an environmental barrier between interior and exterior portions of the electrical enclosure.

  • Patent number: 6254258
Abstract: A sealed light fixture having a valve mounted in the housing to vent pressure that builds-up inside the housing during operation of the light and to prevent moisture and contaminants from entering the housing. The light fixture automatically creates a vacuum inside the housing to prevent condensation from causing corrosion and other problems for the light fixture. The pressure releasing mechanism permits easy installation of the housing cap and avoids damage to the fixture as a result of temperature caused pressure increases. The valve has a pressure equalizing mechanism that can be manually actuated to eliminate the vacuum and equalize the pressure inside the housing with the atmosphere so the housing can be disassembled and the lamp replaced when necessary.

  • Patent number: 6161948
Abstract: An adjustable mount for use with light fixtures that are sealed to prevent entry of moisture and contaminants. O-ring seals are utilized to connect and seal the components of the adjustable mount so that it is not a source of moisture or loss of vacuum. The adjustable mount is a knuckle-type mount that connects a light fixture with a junction box or other source of electrical power. The adjustable mount provides a full range of vertical and rotational angles without damaging the electrical wiring that is sealed inside the mount. Frictional connections in the mount allow the lighting angle to be set without the necessity of tightening the set screws which connect the components together.
