Patent number: 7011404Abstract: Eyewear having an interchangeable single lens, that can be replaced quickly and easily, is provided. The eyewear is particularly suitable for use as safety eyeglasses. The eyewear includes a unitary frame structure having an inner and outer surface. The frame includes a brow bar portion extending laterally across the brow of the wearer, a nose bridge portion depending downwardly from the brow bar, first and second outer temple portions at the outer ends of the brow bar, and lower lens frame portions. The structural frame portions are preferably molded from a relatively rigid plastic material. To provide for attachment of the lens to the frame, the first and second outer temple portions each include a molded elastomeric inset including a post-receiving aperture for receiving a complementary mounting post formed on the lens. Additionally, the nose bridge portion or the center of the brow bar may also include a locking mechanism for holding the lens in position in the central area.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2004Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Eye & Face Protection, Inc.Inventors: Jeremy Conrad Howard, Luke William Michas

Patent number: 7007306Abstract: A face shield assembly including a frame and a removable protective element supported by the frame is disclosed herein. The protective element is removably supported in an opening of the frame by a channel, without the use of fasteners. Because the face shield lacks fasteners, it is easy to remove and replace, even with the use of gloves. In one embodiment, the frame is molded as a single, unitary member and includes an upper detent, a lower detent and a channel formed between a lip and the frame that receives an edge of the protective element in order to hold the protective element within the frame. In another embodiment, the frame is pivotally supported on a support structure such that the frame can be moved between an upper (out of use) and a lower (in use) position, and may further include an adjustable mounting member so that the frame can be selectively spaced relative to the user's head.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2003Date of Patent: March 7, 2006Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Eye & Face Protection, Inc.Inventors: Jeremy C. Publication number: 20050275794Abstract: The safety eyewear includes a one-piece molded lens frame, and left and right temple bar assemblies. The one-piece lens frame includes a brow bar portion, a central bridge portion, a nose piece portion, and left and right lens frame eyewires that cooperate with the brow bar and bridge to define left and right lens openings. An over-molded elastomeric material is also used to provide soft bumpers in the inner side of the brow bar and a soft cushion on the inner surfaces of the nose piece. The creative and selective use of the over-molded material thus provides both decorative and aesthetic features while also providing functional cushioned areas.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2005Publication date: December 15, 2005Applicant: BACOU-DALLOZ EYE & FACE PROTECTION, INC.Inventors: Jeremy Howard, Raymond Curci, Laurent Froissard

Patent number: 6969172Abstract: Safety eyewear (10) having interchangeable lens(es) (28,30) is provided. To provide for interchange of the lenses (28,30) in the frame (12), upper and lower frame members (32,34) are molded from a harder, more rigid plastic while lateral temple portions (20,22), and a central nose bridge portion (18) are molded from a softer, more elastic material. The entire frame structure (12) is preferably molded as a unitary piece to form a unitary frame having rigid upper and lower frame portions (32,34) joined by flexible intermediate portions (18,20,22). In this regard, the upper and lower frame portions (32,34) can be flexed or stretched relative to each other to temporarily separate the frame portions (32,34) and open up the lens openings (24,26).Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2004Date of Patent: November 29, 2005Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Eye & Face Protection, Inc.Inventor: Sebastien Yvan Actis-Datta
