Abstract: Provided herein are compositions, methods and systems to prevent unauthorized use or release into the environment of genetically modified organisms or cells which comprises a) a genetically modified organism or cell and b) one or more keys, wherein contacting the genetically modified organisms or cell with the key results in viability or unviability of the genetically modified organism or cell.
