Patent number: 12157045Abstract: A ball bat includes a barrel portion and a tapered transition portion. An elastomeric coupler is positioned around a distal portion of a handle. A rigid sleeve is positioned around the elastomeric coupler and the handle is passed through the barrel and transition portion until the distal portion, elastomeric coupler, and rigid sleeve are positioned within the transition portion. The elastomeric coupler may be compressed by the rigid sleeve and may be stretched to be positioned around the distal portion. The distal portion may be flared. Adhesive may be used to secure the distal portion, elastomeric coupler, rigid sleeve, and transition portion to one another. Ridges on the elastomeric coupler may engage grooves in the rigid sleeve to resist rotation.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2022Date of Patent: December 3, 2024Assignee: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventors: Blair J. Patent number: 11602680Abstract: A ball bat includes a handle portion with a handle secured in a sleeve in the handle portion. A void is defined within the knob and is not occupied by nor positioned within handle. The void may be defined by a gap between an end of the handle and a base of a sleeve. The gap may be defined by a smaller diameter opening, ribs (integral or separate insert), or protrusions. A void may be defined between an end of the knob and a base of the sleeve and may be occupied by stiffening ribs. The knob may be formed of two parts aligned using one or both of a pin and a locking tab. Parts of the knob extending outwardly from the sleeve may also include a void.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 2020Date of Patent: March 14, 2023Assignee: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventors: Blair J. Patent number: 11364425Abstract: Embodiments are directed toward a bat, such as a softball or baseball bat, that includes a handle and a barrel. The barrel is preferably coupled to the handle. The barrel preferably defines a longitudinal axis. The barrel preferably has asymmetrical composition or construction about the longitudinal axis of the barrel.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2020Date of Patent: June 21, 2022Assignee: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventors: Kyle Louis Hodge, Grant Farrell Douglas, Blair Jack Ellington, William B. Publication number: 20170106251Abstract: A leather-based cover material for an inflatable sports ball that consists of a composite of a thin external layer, a filler, and an internal liner. The thin external layer is dimpled by using positive/negative embossing plates to create pebble projections on an exterior side and voids on the other or interior side. The interior side is coated with a filler material that fills the voids. The cover material is completed by attaching a liner layer to the cured filler material.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2016Publication date: April 20, 2017Applicant: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventor: Hugh Tompkins

Patent number: 9498690Abstract: A ball bat includes one or more stiffeners configured to provide an attenuating surface that limits the bat barrel's elastic deformation as the barrel deflects radially inwardly as a result of a particularly violent bat to ball collision. The stiffener is spaced apart from the inner surface of the barrel a predetermined distance to form a gap, wherein the gap extends only partially around the inner circumference of the barrel. The presence of the gap extending only partially around the barrel circumference provides multiple hitting profiles around the bat's circumference, with the best performance occurring adjacent the gap, and a reduced performance at all other locations around the bat's circumference.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2014Date of Patent: November 22, 2016Assignee: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence E. Publication number: 20160243408Abstract: A volleyball cover is made of six equal panel sections. Each panel section is divided into two cover panels, making a total of twelve cover panels on the volleyball. Each cover panel has a plurality of dimples arranged in a uniform pattern across the cover panel. Cover panels are separated by very shallow skiving.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 26, 2016Publication date: August 25, 2016Applicant: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventor: Hugh Tompkins

Publication number: 20150327616Abstract: A practice device is disclosed for attachment to a face mask of a football helmet or the like. The practice device includes a weighted body portion that has a flexible stem. A clip or clasp attaches the outer end of the stem to the face mask. The clasp attaches the device to the helmet in a manner so that the body portion of the device partially obstructs the helmet wearer's view and thereby allows the wearer to practice throwing a ball (or receiving) while view is obstructed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2015Publication date: November 19, 2015Applicant: BADEN SPORTS, INC.Inventor: Hugh Millen

Patent number: 9101810Abstract: A bat having different stiffnesses in different planes relative to a longitudinal axis (i.e., swing axis) of the bat. More specifically, the bat includes a greater stiffness in a vertical plane as compared to relatively more flexible stiffness in a swing plane. This differential stiffness may be accomplished with an intermediate material located within an internal space defined where a handle affixes to a barrel of the bat or alternatively with a transitional member structurally arranged between the handle and the barrel of the bat. The transitional member may provide for vibration and/or shock dampening to minimize or eliminate the “sting” typically associated with monolithic, metallic bats. Additionally, the handle may include a shape that tends to naturally align the vertical and swing planes of the bat when the handle is gripped by a player.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2010Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence E. Patent number: 5636835Abstract: The invention disclosed and claimed here is a padded inflatable game ball. The ball is a seamed ball consisting of a spherical rubber bladder, a layer of winding surrounding the bladder, a cellular sponge layer surrounding the winding, and seams and external skin panel sections surrounding the cellular sponge layer. The sponge layer provides padding under the skin panel sections. The seams are made of narrow strips of high density rubber which cover a relatively small section of the overall surface area of the sponge layer. This allows outgassing of the sponge layer as it is foamed during the ball manufacturing process.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1995Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: Baden Sports, Inc.Inventors: Edgar C.
