  • Publication number: 20150241563
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring the movement and activity of targets is provided. The method comprises the steps of initially detecting electromagnetic (EM) radiation reflected by the target and recording spectral information relating to it and detecting EM radiation reflected by a target at a later time and again recording spectral information relating to it. The spectral information relating to the initially detected and later detected targets is then compared, so as to establish whether the initially detected and later detected targets are the same.

  • Patent number: 9119179
Abstract: A system and method for dynamically planning a network is presented. One method may begin by determining network parameters for connecting nodes to a network and decision variables associated with radios and/or nodes in the network. Constraints may be established to narrow possible values of the network parameters and/or the decision variables. The constraints may be based on one or more of: values associated with connecting a radio to a node in the network, values associated with connecting two nodes in the network together over a communication link, whether a node can connect to a GIG node and a flow balance in the GIG node. To find possible links in the network that are optimal, the method may minimize an equation based on the network parameters, constraints and decision variables to determine optimal communication links between pairs of nodes in the network, pairs of nodes and radios and/or pairs of radios.

  • Patent number: 9118096
Abstract: A feed structure for a wearable antenna incorporates a microstrip transmission line designed for mounting on opposite sides of a fabric. The transmission line has a perforated ground plane which reduces capacitance and offers an appropriate impedance, even when the fabric is thin, and allows the use of a relatively robust line conductor having a width of 3 mm or 5 mm or more. The ground plane can be extended to provide the ground plane of a balun and the material of that ground plane can in turn be extended to provide the wearable antenna.

  • Patent number: 9118284
Abstract: An amplifier for amplifying signals is presented. A cascode power amplifier includes two or more adjacent cascode amplifiers and at least one remote cascode amplifier. The adjacent cascode amplifiers are lined up adjacent each other with inputs of the adjacent cascode amplifiers connected to a common input line and outputs of the of adjacent cascode amplifiers connected to a common output line. The adjacent cascode amplifiers generally operate in parallel. The remote cascode amplifier is spaced apart from the adjacent cascode amplifiers. An input transmission line connects an input of the remote cascode amplifier to the common input line. An output transmission line connects an output of the remote cascode amplifier to the common output line. Amplified outputs of the adjacent cascode amplifiers and amplified outputs of the remote cascode amplifier are power combined and summed into a coherent amplified output signal that is output on the output transmission line.

  • Patent number: 9119214
Abstract: A system and method for selecting an optimal frequency channel to communicate on in a wireless network is disclosed. The optimal frequency is selected from a predefined set of frequencies for all nodes to communicate on based on an exposure calculation. All underlay nodes collect initial SNR information from initial detection of other nodes and adjust their transmit power for an intended receiver such that the signal is received at the lowest allowable underlay-to-overlay power ratio, thus minimizing exposure. The desired underlay-to-overlay ratio is set based on how much we are capable of cancelling the overlay signal and the SINR at which a signal can be recovered such that the data can be successfully received from the underlay node. The optimal channel selected by this algorithm is the one with the least area of undesired exposure, or least probability of interfering with the primary user. The performance increases as a function of number of nodes, or data points.

  • Patent number: 9106322
Abstract: In apparatus for the acoustic transmission of power or data through a solid barrier such as a ships hull, assembly of an acoustic transducer to the hull is facilitated by bonding it first to an intermediate element by a thin layer of bonding adhesive and then bonding the intermediate element to the barrier using a second bonding layer. Acoustic matching of the transducer to the intermediate element is achieved by the thin layer, and the mechanically more robust base of the intermediate element can be rubbed on the barrier surface to displace or abrade away any unwanted debris or imperfections which might otherwise prevent the achievement of a thin second bonding layer. This makes the mounting and bonding process more tolerant of imperfections in the barrier surface due to either surface defects or particulate contamination. The transmit and receive transducers may be positioned relative to each other so as to suppress or attenuate multiple-transit signals.
